Guys, hanging out with me again, Gofar Hilman, at PWK! This time my hangout buddy is a singer with a wealth of experience in the Indonesian music world. From the Asia Bagus singing competition, to participating in Indonesian Idol, and now being a judge, he's become one of the singers with a distinctive vocal style in Indonesia. Here he is, Judika!
Well, while I'm here with a Batak guy, I want to know and learn about Batak culture. Especially when it comes to singing and sharing my voice; Batak people are really good at that. In this episode, Judika even taught me how to break out into a deep voice so I can hang out at the cafe. We also talked about the vocal group Trio Ambisi, which has apparently had a big influence on many Batak people.
I also talked about Judika's struggles, from his time competing in the Bahana Suara Pelajar competition, to Asia Bagus, playing music from cafe to cafe, and finally, finally, auditioning for Indonesian Idol. There were so many exciting stories about his audition for Indonesian Idol. One of them was that Judika was nervous, and he sang too fast, making what should have been a romantic song sound like a race. We also reminisced about the songs he often sang in competitions, including the famously high-pitched "Utha Likumahuwa." Speaking of competitions, Judika also shared a bitter experience he had during his time competing, such as being cheated by the committee and having his money stolen. Not to mention his struggles building a career in Jakarta, which turned out to be far from as easy as many people imagined.
We also talked about Judika's metamorphosis from a talent show champion to the moment he was offered the role of vocalist for Mahadewa, having previously been offered the role of vocalist for Kerispatih, replacing Sammy Simorangkir. Speaking of vocal characteristics, Judika also shared how he acquired his current raspy voice, which apparently all started during one of his performances as an Indonesian Idol contestant. And most hilariously, I also learned how Judika manages to survive the extreme conditions he's experienced on stage. From a sore throat to bloody phlegm, to a ruptured eardrum, to still performing professionally in front of an audience.
We didn't just talk about music; we also asked for advice from Judika, known as the "blessing fighter," on how to get a girl's parents' blessings. This is just for my lunch break, man... hehehehehe. And this brother of mine told me how he got Duma Riris's parents' blessing, and how they're a happy family now. But looking at Judika's current achievements, I admire him. It was evident when I was hanging out at PWK with him, he was wearing a special edition Rolex watch that was incredibly expensive. When Judika wore the watch, which was apparently recommended by Maia's mother, I said, "This guy's really going to the extent of wearing a special edition Rolex." We also talked about automotive topics, from Judika's hobby to the car he drives every day.
With Judika, it wouldn't be complete if I didn't talk about the Indonesian Idol judges like BCL, Rossa, Maia's mother, and the poisonous mouth, Soleh Solihun. From their most memorable moments to the story behind Soleh Solihun, who is known for his sharp comments. And it turns out I just found out that Judika was one of the people who recommended Soleh to be an Indonesian Idol judge.
