Full masterclass available on Canal Escuela: https://www.escuelasuperiordemusicare...
Student: Dimitri Vassilakis
Venue: Granados-Marshall Academy (Barcelona), 15/09/2004
I. Albéniz: Iberia for solo piano T 105 – Triana
Abstract: In this excerpt from the masterclass, Professor Alicia de Larrocha works carefully through certain passages with the student to improve the relationship between sound and movement, emphasizing the importance of not losing the harmonic bass. They review in detail the dynamic and rhythmic indications, without neglecting the dolce and cantabile character in certain moments, or the inner pulse despite the work’s flexibility. What matters to the professor is that, by gaining a deeper understanding of these internal aspects, the student can then move from detail to the whole, achieving a spontaneous interpretation that still conveys the line, concept, and character of Albéniz’s work with rigor.
