From what I understand, K-9 getting voted off first was actually planned, since historically, K-9 props have had a VERY bad habit of breaking down on set. So they didn't want to risk that.

Seeing Bad Wolf's "Anne Droid" getting unplugged by Anne in a Doctor Who special is just so satisfying.
