Asunción, Paraguay. Saturday, May 29, 2021. Another match is being played in the División Intermedia, the second tier of Paraguayan football. The game is tied, and Deportivo Capiatá has a penalty kick. Number 10, a 30-year-old striker who arrived at the club just a few weeks ago and who had paid another player to wear that jersey, is going to take it. He positions the ball, takes a run-up, and strikes it. The ball sails meters over the crossbar.

That missed penalty was the last touch of that player in Paraguayan football. Afterward, someone warned him that the police were looking for him, and he stopped showing up for training. On June 7, 2021, nine days after that match, he boarded a plane with his partner and children, bound for the United Arab Emirates, and never set foot in Paraguay again.

That man's name is Sebastián Marset. He is Uruguayan, and the DEA described him as "a modern-day Pablo Escobar." His organization moved tons of cocaine to Europe, was linked to the murder of a prosecutor on his honeymoon, brought down ministers in two countries, humiliated another, and had ten different personalities.
