Some sci-fi sequels became legends. These ten got buried.
From a Westworld follow-up that pioneered CGI to a sequel Stanley Kubrick personally blessed with a three-word phone call, these are the forgotten continuations of films everyone knows, made by people brave or foolish enough to try.
We're talking about a Phil Tippett-directed Starship Troopers sequel shot in 26 days. A Donnie Darko follow-up that its original director has never watched and calls "horribly violating." A Cocoon sequel with one of the most stacked casts in Hollywood history that nobody saw. And a 2001: A Space Odyssey sequel that actually works and has been quietly overlooked for 40 years because of it.
One franchise on this list produced TWO forgotten sequels. Both are here.
Films covered:
Short Circuit 2 (1988)
Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004)
Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace (1996)
The Fly II (1989)
Cocoon: The Return (1988)
Escape from L.A. (1996)
S. Darko (2009)
