The pallet was a great idea and shows you can do it cheap. For my baseboard in tt:120 for wood I needed I paid £30. Some great ideas in the comments again and I’m cracking through your episodes now. Onto episode 3.  All the best Anth Knill 👍

Hi! Just discovered your channel. I recently decided to get back in to railway modelling. I had wanted to do (still do, but its now Plan B) a DCC shunting layout with top level Bachmann locos, powered points, automatic uncouplers etc., but realised it would take a long time to get enough stuff to do anything to sustain my interest. So, I have scaled back "Plan A" to being a simpler DC/Hand-of-God shunting layout based on a Hornby Railroad "Network Traveller" set, some rolling stock off ebay, etc. It won't be a hundred pounds, but I reckon my layout will come in at around £200 all told, as opposed to the almost £300 I'll need just to get my dream "Gronk". Loving the inspiration people like you and Budget Model Railways are providing!

The pocketline sets are good fun and great value and also Kato, so good quality.Can also use the chassis in MANY kits , esp oo9 and some tram like vehicles.

Kato stuff is a great  shout, I have a few locos and a few of the chassis that i've built 3d printed bodies on. I have been toying with the idea of a complete Japanese layout as the stuff they make is so good and cheap.

Have you thought about a tram. I'm just starting an N gauge tram layout.  Tram pack from Kato, Flexitrack round a Pizza tray, one point to a tram shed, all my buildings are going to be Scalescenes,. Controller from Amazon and case to put it in from Budget Model Railways. Excellent so far, looking forward to the rest of the series,

Love the work on the repurposed pallet. I assume you are doing the N Gauge route now? I wish you all the best with it mate. I forgot about the Kato Pocket Line range as well. PlazaJapan is a good source for Kato if you wanted to keep costs down. I used them loads of times when I had N gauge. I have a handful of N gauge trains but I mainly do OO Gauge as I can see it better. Keep up the great work mate. All the best, Peter.

Not sure about the pallet baseboard, there if often far nicer wood availabe for free in skips (or even on FB marketplace). Talking of skips if you really want to elevate your layout (pun intended) why not go looking for some free Kingspan insulation offcuts to make some hills on the flat board, there's usually plent offcuts being chucked any time someone has an extension

Hi, For train sets look at you local charity shops. I picked up the Hornby LNER Heavy Goods set from from my local charity shop. It was boxed and complete for £15.00. It had the B12 4-6-0 loco and 7 wagons. full oval of track 1 point , power supply and a level crossing. It all worked. The only thing wrong with it was one of the wagons had a broken buffer. An easy thing to fix. With that set you would have 75% of what you need for 15% of your budget.

Thanks for the shout out mate :)  I think you should include the £3 for the pallet in the budget though as it's only £3 and you could then say to any doubters that the budget included the baseboard, not many will think it's possible.  Kato Pocket Line is a good shout, the loco isn't powered, the motorised chassis is hidden under one of the coaches (at least it was on the steam set I got).  I picked a set up for £60 last year, so if you got one for £36 that's a bargain.

PS - Wordsworth kits are scaleable. Just change the scale when you print. Another thing to watch is the setting on my printer defaults to "Fit to Printer Margins". This results in a smaller scale !!!

for an N scale layout, check out ikea and buy a table top in the As Is section.  in Aus they cost about $30 so you would probably get one for arounf 15 quid

Just before Christmas I picked up a hornby West Coast highlander set for £42 off of fleabag which included a point and some huts etc. There are some of the same and similar ones on there at the moment for roughly the same money.
