In this new video, join me in the cab of a BB 26000 hauling a heavy 2,300-tonne freight train from Perpignan to Miramas in southern France.
Our journey begins at Narbonne station. You can follow the cabride as far as Montpellier-Sud-de-France, where fading daylight unfortunately makes it impossible to continue filming. The train then continues to Miramas marshalling yard.
Along the way, we travel over part of the famous southern cross-country route via Béziers, Agde, Sète and Frontignan, before leaving the historic line at Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone to join the Nîmes–Montpellier bypass, known as the CNM.
A wide variety of trains can also be seen throughout the journey: TGVs and international AVEs, Intercités, regional trains, fuel trains, rolling motorways, container trains and many other freight services, all under beautiful late-afternoon sunshine.
The journey is also an opportunity to discover railway heritage and landscapes across Languedoc: the Malpas tunnel, the Canal du Midi, the history of uranium traffic by rail, the Thau lagoon, Sète’s movable railway bridge, the port railway network, as well as the CNM and Montpellier-Sud-de-France station.
Enjoy the journey!
