Jorge Rosado: Merauder, Making Master Killer, Remembering "Sob" & The Sepultura Audition (HardLore)

HARDLORE

Well, the day has finally arrived... After nearly four years of consistently praising Merauder's debut album, Master Killer (one of our favorite records ever) we're finally joined in person for a full length episode by vocalist Jorge Rosado.

We discuss his early life in Brooklyn, the Sunset Skins, meeting the late great Javier "Sob" Carpio, being asked to eventually join Merauder (& recording Master Killer just a few months later), the complicated timeline of Five Deadly Venoms, his love for the Eddie Leeway versions of the songs, the rejection of not landing the Sepultura gig and much, much, MUCH more.

A loaded episode that's been a long time coming. Thank you Jorge for joining us as we all celebrate 30 years of one of the best albums ever. Enjoy.

Jorge is the reason it was "safe" for me to go into NY pits when I first moved to NYC in 88. His whole crew were terrifying and its nice to hear him admit that they were a problem.

He was at the Napalm Death show at CB's with Prong and Blind Idiot God. The only one of that crew from matinees, that I stayed made sure to keep my distance from. He jumped up and threw his arms back during ND's set and hit me on top of my head. And he knocked me out! I came to with him picking me up, a panicked look on his face saying "You alright bro? " over and over as he helped me stand. When it was clear I was okay he hugged me and apologized! I did not expect that!

Every time he saw me at a show after that, he would gave me the handshake/bro hug and ask how I was. So I was "Jorge's Boy" and nobody fucked with me in the pit. And I made friends. I will always appreciate that

Man, Jorge is such a great, humble and down to earth guy. He’s literally one of us. Much respect to him and Marauder,Long live the master killer.

Something that is really heart-warming about these interviews is how they highlight that the people who sing the songs, write the albums, and perform hardcore are not untouchable idols to be worshipped. But rather, our peers and elders who are to be treated with the same human respect we all deserve.

The amount of lore and stories Colin has about Jorge’s band when Jorge has never given them a second thought just shows how different two people can be

Jorge hung out with me, my brother, and my dad for about 30 minutes at their headline show in San Antonio last year. Dude is full of wild stories and truly loves the scene

I was hesitant to watch this because old heads can be difficult to interview. I'm happy I was proven wrong. Jorge was great to listen to and Colin and Bo did a great job with the interview.

RIP Sob, Eddie Leeway, PR Mike, Lil Gregg and all the other fallen NYHC legends that paved the way in much tougher times🙏🫡

Man that part about 1 hour in where he talks about his love for Eddie Leeway and losing him and Sob and Puerto Rican Mike, that made me sad as fuck. Aside from being a specific thing he was talking about, felt like that was also a huge metaphor for just getting older, acknowledging time moves on as it leaves your boys and those memories and the "golden years" in the past, and that youre living in a new world where nothing feels the same anymore. Props to the crew too for cutting the camera away from him while he was clearly wiping tears and choked up

This was a great fucking interview with so much entertaining moments and self reflection and great stories. I didnt know shit about Jorge before this other than "NYHC tough guy" but i got so much more respect for him and the band now. He comes off as just a very real person. That time and place and all the people involved will never be forgotten and will still be influencing people for forever, long after all these guys are gone

Also him talking about Leeway's Open Mouth Kiss album was an eye opener cause my dumbass had never even heard it. Great fucking album

I wouldn't imagine him listening to Helstar and Blood Feast. What a nice surprise .

Really enjoyed that! Love Merauder... I remember taking bus rides to school as a 14 year old kid with Master killer on repeat (when it came out), feeling like i could fight the world! Still makes me feel like that today👊 👊 great band and Jorge is a gret dude.
