Whether you’ve been playing for 2 months or 40 years, I’d love to hear your story! ❤️🎶

What really accelerated my playing was learning guitar chords beyond the 3rd fret.  And very few were barre chords.  Barre chords are not played by many pros. You can get better sound by using triplets(3 notes that make up a chord) and power chords, plus movable chord shapes, and partial barre chords. (Barring 3 strings is a lot easier then  all 6.)  The older we get we start losing flexibility in our fingers, and there is no need to torture ourselves, by trying to play overemphasized barre chords. I have talked to several guitar players who used barre chords when they were younger and can no longer do so comfortably.  They just accelerate any problems you have with your hands.

I took lessons and was told to always watch what you’re playing, eventually you will be able to play without looking, you need to see the shape of the chords

Congrats on 1K subs! I started playing in high school and then put it down for many many years before picking it up again about 4 years ago. All of these are great tips. I would say recording yourself is pretty much mandatory if you are going the self taught route. If possible play small bits for your partners/friends as a way to get comfortable playing in front of others. Early on I was taught that whenever I was sitting down to watch TV, I should pick up the guitar and practice fretting  to help with building muscle memory.

It is true that the essence of time is important while knowing what to play and practice on the guitar for every beginner guitarist out there.  Make sure your guitar instrument strings are properly aligned or tune by a proper guitar technician so you don't struggle to hold the 6 strings.  Lastly, there are many good teaching guitar video lesson out there that helps every beginner guitarist to accelerate your guitar playing skills.  My advice to every beginner should learn how to play bass (root of a chord) on the 4, 5 and 6th string.  This should strengthened your left hand (to hold one or more music notes) and the right right hand (while strumming or picking strings) while singing in tune and keeping to the beat of the song (4/4  3/4  6/8  etc ...).  There is one power chord shape that can be picked or strum along to play all your favourite songs.  I wouldn't teach any open chords until they have master the single bass note [ R ]  or power chord [ R 5  or  R 5 O ] movements before moving out to triad [ R 3 5 nth ... ].  Then learn the CAGED open single movable chord system across the entire guitar fretboard.  Cheers, I hope this helps to enlighten every beginner learning guitarist out there how to play your guitar in the possible shortest time frame.

practicing regularly for over 3 years, still struggling with GETTING to a bar chord in time to keep the rhythm, still a challenge.  I can play Blackbird about 50% of the time after two years.  Still reading music, not memorizing.  Playing all the cowboy chords pretty well....What I love about this channel is most guitar YT channels are hosted by guitar masters so to have someone who is facing similar real time issues is refreshing and inspiring. Also bought a mini Cordoba after playing a 00028 Martin for over a year.

I've been playing for more years than I care to admit to. Back when TV was a thing I'd sit for hours and play as I'd watch M.A.S.H. and play along to commercials or whatever, that taught me to learn the position of chords without looking. The journey was long but very enjoyable and you will hit plateaus, take a break and go again. All the best from Canada.

I think many people believe that they  should start out with a Dreadnought, as this is the “usual” type that’s advertised etc.
It was too big for me so I opted for an OM (Orchestra model) next size down I think, as it was a little smaller and not as wide and was much closer to my body. I also went to the local music shop and spent £40 (UK) to have the action lowered and at 60yrs of age it was like a different guitar. I could change chords better with very little pain in fingertips and felt much more confident in playing and practicing which in turn made my progress significantly faster.
I would certainly recommend the above or at least looking into it as the “standard” setup can actually hinder our progress.
Love your videos as they mirror real progress, although I’m not saying that sometimes I don’t feel like throwing the darn thing through the window 😂
Being able to play any instrument is a gift and it can bring so much joy to others, so don’t give up, be stubborn and press on. 🙏🏻
Stick with it folks and it is definitely worth it.

Stacy, you have a pleasant singing voice.  I'm still working on that. 🥴  The tendency of my voice to go flat is definitely holding me back from singing for friends.

I have an affinity for nylon string guitars because I prefer their sound vs steel strings.  I have two crossovers.  One is a Cordoba that is the perfect size for me with a slightly wider fingerboard than an acoustic.  It's 48mm.  The action is good without any additional setup required.  I  can even make a barre chord!  Its sound is closer to acoustic than classical, louder I guess.

The other is a Lucerco that is definitely more like a standard classical instrument. The nut width is 50mm; a bit of a stretch for my hands. The body shape is a bit bulkier and heavier than my other guitar.  But I play sitting down 100 percent of the time so that's not a real issue.  The voice of this one is much quieter but I can get volume when necessary.  I do think though it could benefit from a good setup.  Eyeballing the action I think it's a little high plus I can't finger a clean sounding barre chord.
Both of them have truss rods and electric pickups, although I don't use an amp.

I can sure relate to picking out the right songs!  I just added a lovely waltz from Barry Manilow to my collection and it's  a lot tougher to get a handle on it than I expected.  Plus it has about five really weird chords I'm trying to master.  But I'll get there eventually.  In contrast I also added one from Billy Joel that was way easier than I expected. 😊

I'm retired, so I have loads of time to practice and I do.  So I SHOULD be a lot farther along with my playing after a bit longer than two years.  But I basically stick to my comfort zone. 😒  And yes, that definitely slows down any progress.  I started playing because I wanted to accompany myself while singing my favorite songs.  I can do that, so maybe I just don't have the motivation to push myself to tackle the hard stuff:  barre chords, scales, reading music.  But I'm having fun and still making a bit of progress, albeit slowly.
