A wonderful low budget campy (or so-bad-its-good) gem shot in Dallas in 1969. A witch - the fantastic Marie Santell in her only screen credit! - that is hanged in the 1600s is inadvertently resurrected 321 years later at a Dallas area college by some nice students playing around with an old book of spells. The witch possesses a student and seems intent on getting revenge on the descendant of the man who executed her. I like witch flicks but for some strange reason most of the male students looks like shorthaired beatniks, in 1969?! Marie Santell's first 3½ minutes ruled. OMG! I wanna sample that for a noise tune. I gave Mark of the Witch 3 out of 5 on Letterboxd.

This film is probably based on true events that occurred in Scotland during the reign of King James VI who was believed cursed by a coven of witches that wanted the King dead in the storms of 1590 that almost su7nk his ship headed back from Denmark. This may have led to the Berwick Witch Trials in Scotland that attributed to thousands of executions of those in Scotland deemed witches. Some of the Royal Stewarts descended from King James believe themselves to be cursed, as well.
