This home for a family of four faces a greenway with lush trees and a small stream.
Floor levels and the placement and orientation of windows have been carefully planned to bring the greenery of the adjacent greenway into everyday life while maintaining privacy from passersby.
The living room overlooking the greenway sits approximately 1.45 m above the ground-floor level. Beneath it is a Japanese-style room with a sunken floor. The dining and kitchen area, Japanese-style room, and living room are gently connected across staggered levels.
These changes in floor height keep the sightlines of people walking along the greenway separate from those of the residents, allowing them to enjoy the greenery beyond the windows in privacy. They also create a dynamic interior that feels far more expansive than its total floor area of around 107 m² might suggest.
On the south side, a triangular space resembling a large bay window opens up views toward the greenway, while high-level windows bring in light.
The home opens to nearby nature while preserving privacy. Differences in floor level and thoughtfully designed windows create a comfortable relationship with the greenway.
