What internet historian video do you like the most?
And if it’s not one I’ve seen yet recommend it to me 😎❤

I can explain the hair thing. Basically, drugs can be detected by testing your blood, pee, and hair. Hair in particular can hold traces of drugs for a lot longer than the other two. So since he tested positive from a hair sample but had a clean blood sample, that means he sniffed the happy dust months prior (most likely). He did drugs, but not recently enough for it to have caused the accident.

EDIT: I got curious and looked it up. Apparently the cocaine wasn't actually IN his hair like you'd expect, but ON his hair. So he probably wasn't actually using at all, and it's not exactly a stretch to assume that there were people on the ship who were doing coke at some point and came in contact with him.

Damn editor caught her in 4k getting rizzed up by him immediately lol

I remember watching this. May the people who died rest in peace.

18:20 the problem with lying here is that they knew factually that there was no recovery from the water that they had taken in and that they would have to abandon ship. However, they were cowards and lied to "prevent a panic". There was no reason to lie. Better to get people to muster stations with life vests on and have them start the process of abandoning ship because not only is it the correct thing to do, but it also greatly reduces the amount of issues you have to deal with on the ship. The more people OFF the ship, the less you have to deal with. As you saw shortly after this moment, things got progressively worse, allowing them to only use one side of the ship for lifeboats and that was ALL BECAUSE of the lie at this very moment. Had they had the time to put lifeboats in the water on both sides, the process would have gone much smoother and probably would have prevented some deaths.

Juvi is thristing on criminals... noted...
Brb gotta go rob a bank really quickly

Avengers assemble for the worst crew to sail a ship.

To swim to land, you have to get in the water. The ship is 228 feet tall, so jumping from the deck into the water would be like jumping off a 23 story building. You'd die from blunt force trauma before even getting the chance to start swimming.

51:41 imagine that if you lost a friend a family member or loved ones due to the ship's sinking or that you survived the ship sinking and you see the man who's incompetence sank the ship on the front page of the newspaper partying I'd be pissed

This one is just hilarious. The sheer unawareness of everyone involved is astounding. One would ask “how is this even possible?” and I respond; this is just how people are.

18:25 putting aside the fact that the ship is indeed sinking it feels in bad taste to play that song on a cruise ship

6:00 Important thing to note, being a helmsman on such a crewed vessel is actually an entry level job that doesn't really require experience. The helmsman doesn't make decisions, they just follow what they are told to do by the "officer in command" that is running the bridge. The language barrier is the issue, and not Jacob's prior work history.

18:15 NO. In an emergency situation give people all the necessary information to keep them safe. You don't have to tell them EVERYTHING. But a cautious "We are in an emergency situation, please proceed to your muster stations and await further instructions" is probably the best bet. If you get everything under control, things will go back to normal. If things get worse, they are already at the emergency stations to evacuate. Telling everyone to go to their cabin is just delaying the mob running to evacuate when the situation is worse.

22:54 Because that's actually not as bad a record as it sounds. The damage on those 2 incidents were the equivalent of scratched paint and a damaged bumper on a car. Also, remember that while the capitan proved himself a scumbag after the crash, there wouldn't have been a crash if the company hadn't hired a helmsman who couldn't speak or understand the right languages.

4:05 Nah, both of those were basically minor fender-benders and they eventually happen to every Captain/First Officer in their career, especially at busy ports where the port controllers are pressuring every ship to move as fast as possible for maximum throughput. Nothing so extreme as the megayacht crash clip from a movie (that would get the Captain fired for sure), and not a big deal unless the Captain was drunk or on drugs at the time. Also, Schettino was actually qualified to be captain from working as the First Officer on a ferry line at a different company. Being in the company for a few years at whatever position is available and being promoted "directly" to a Captain's position as soon as one becomes available at the company is very common in the industry, and a promotion like that may even have been part of his hiring agreement.

18:09 Ok, so you DO want to LIE. But tell them a HALF TRUTH, like there's an engine malfunction and to standby for instructions. This will keep the people ALERT, but NOT PANICKING.
You never tell them you are sinking because that's an immediate panic word.

You be an honest captain and tell the truth to the coast guard because you shouldn't tell lies to the person who can help most.
You prepare the lifeboats and once you determine the full sinking damage, you order an orderly abandon ship protocol.

18:05 It's fine to lie to maintain peace when it's a quick problem that can be resolved quietly.... THAT was not quiet, so no, lying is just going to make it worse.

18:05: Good on them for remembering that most people can't deal with emergencies well. Bad on them that they didn't get them to at least prepare until the situation was clear. Though in this particular situation, the problem was a bit too obvious, so they might as well just have started full preparations.

29:59: Or hired a proper navigator. Or had the crew not been complacent. Or had the company CURBED THE STUPID SAIL-BY SALUTES! Seriously, putting it all on the captain, as much of a dirtbag as he is, is uncalled for.

Never clicked faster on a video suggestion

You only lie if you have a modicum of control and don't want to risk undue panic. However it has to be incredibly strategic to not make things turn for the worst.

Sometimes people themselves become THE danger - when panic sets in, impulsive or rash actions can be taken, and at worst, a stampede that can kill from being trampled.

We can assuredly say in hindsight, this captain definitely shouldn't have lied. They were on board a ship where water could drown anyone, not alike a stadium where people could reasonably evacuate the venue slowly or hastily, and on safe land.
