I can think of many reasons to cycle along the Via Francigena. Perhaps mine is the least noble of them all.
I'm not looking for a challenge, I'm not seeking redemption, and much less am I looking for a different way to spend a few days in August. I just want to cycle.
It's what I do when I feel like I have jumbled thoughts in my head. I wrap myself in the silence of places to muffle the buzz of my thoughts... and, if you listen carefully, no place is truly shrouded in silence.
When you embark on a long journey, you can't allow yourself to be weighed down. People think that weight is just a matter of the weight of your backpack, but... that's not the case. Try being a slave to a thought while cycling 100km a day under the August sun. See, even a thought can have a weight. But I can't completely free myself of all thoughts; I just have to choose the ones that make sense to carry.
