Silent Hill 2 is, in my opinion, an exceptional horror game. With this video I want to not only discuss what I believe makes it special, but also offer some insight into the mindset and context I went into the game with whilst exploring the dark truth behind SH2's story.

I will be utterly astonished if we don't get more Silent Hills now. The franchise should get a revival from here in RE fashion. I'm a huge fan of Resident Evil and I actually think Silent Hill 2 is better than every single RE combined. I NEED more Silent Hill!!!

I think fear is just another form of difficulty. Pressing through a terrifying situation gives me the same satisfaction as beating a difficult boss in a Fromsoftware game.

25:03 “Mary…🥺” the way he says her name there is the most sad scene in the game. You can hear the emotion in his voice. The voice actor for James in the remake did an amazing job and should’ve won an award.

The remake was so terrifying because of the limited range of the flashlight, the sounddesign, and the constant presence of enemies. They are everywhere.

The sad thing is they were both very young. I think they werent even 30 in the original. the final line from James hits so hard and you can tell he was suffering mentally and emotionally. It broke him and wasnt strong enough to overcome his grief.

Side not: if you inspect poster in the remake around the hospital that talks about dealing with mental health, you can read it over the shoulder and if you inspect it by havng James read it, the word "guilt" is missing.

The sound design is absolutely insane. I had to take off my headphones when I reached the apartments.. then I got brave by putting it back on when I reached the prison and boy did I throw them back off 😭😭

12:50 I directly blame the original SH2 for my legitimate phobia of mannequins, The remake made it so much worse for me, especially in the prison 😭 The subtle changes that Bloober team DID make with enemy design were absolutely brilliant and made the game so tense in a completely different fashion for a returning player like me 😰

I enjoy watching to a lot of analysis videos on Silent Hill 2 but when you thanked the viewer for watching prior to diving into spoilers, that made me subscribe. Aside from the well made video and discussion in it, I felt some sincerity in that one specific part and it's pleasantly surprising! Keep making great content!! Silent Hill really didn't scare me but I found it disturbing and familiar.i didn't understand why until my wife died it was clear that this game would predict the hell i was about to go through,down to even thr creatures,the game encapsulated my refusal to let her memory go

The high Ceilings especially in the Prison constantly kept me on Edge

Seeing how far down you’ve gone and how high they seem to go along with the Atmosphere and Enemy Design was just a surprisingly good cocktail of Horror

I watched The Ring when I was 7, and I had nightmares about it for years. I would panic if any TV was showing static, and i couldnt look at mirrors for too long. Around that same age I watched my dad play through the original Silent Hill 2. I've played it dozens of times since. Both The Ring and SH2 are burned forever into my brain, and I attribute my love of horror to those two ❤ Bloober was so faithful to the original, I couldn't have been happier! Great video 💖
