It's cool how well Y2 combat flows into Y3. I spent the past few months 100%ing Y3 and when I revisited 2, pretty much all of the base elements of how combat works in 3 are either there from the start or unlocked with a little patience. I was especially surprised that the two square reverse triangle combo might be even more versatile and useful in 2 since street punks don't have the reaction time of a supercomputer.
I still prefer K1's combat flow but God, nothing's gonna beat how cool Y2 feels overall, it's insane. Wish they could re-release Y1&2 HD collection so people can experience the OG treatment, games deserve the praise.
Music during this fight goes almost as hard as its setting. Instead of fighting Amon in some bull ring or theater squate, here you bully the man with a view of whole ass city in the background.
I remember being blown away of how different the combat feel in 2 compared to 1. Much smoother and more responsive and importantly, more brutal. YAKUZA 2 PS2 still the GOAT.
It's so much more crunchy and visceral. I love the newer games and their blatantly over-the-top, overtly stylish combat but this game's punches hit HARD.
Sometimes I wish Kiwami 2 had a bit more time in development to make a third city and a pier just to truly make the best experience. This is still the best game.
PS1-PS2 Era beat'em ups do be hitting different tho. As much as I love the graphics of the Dragon Engine, there was something about those older titles that just made the hits feel meaty and satisfying, even when your hit gets blocked by the enemy. In the remake it feels like you're not really hitting anything and your moveset seems so much more limited.
