Welcome back to another instalment of the Airgun Diary! Today we are diving into a mix of DIY upgrades, hunting preparation, and some vintage rifle maintenance to keep everything shooting straight. Whether you are looking for a quieter way to practice or tips on zeroing your scope, there is something here for every enthusiast.

We start in the shed to improve my custom backstop box. While my previous denim filling worked for a while, it creates quite a bit of mess over time. I'm testing out duct seal as a cleaner and quieter alternative to plumber's putty. I'll show you how it handles the heat and how I modified the box with a new bar and magnets to hold A4 targets more securely.

Next, it is time to prepare for an upcoming rabbit hunting trip. I'm getting the BSA Ultra CLX ready, which is equipped with the Zulus version 2 digital day and night scope. We'll be checking the zero at 35 yards using Crossman Ultra Magnum pellets in .22 calibre and testing the ballistic calculator at various distances. This ensures total accuracy and confidence in my shot placement before heading out into the field later tonight.

Finally, I'm revisiting my vintage BSA Airsporter to fit some open sights. After receiving a generous gift of parts from a member of the airgun community, I'm working through the challenges of fitting older sights to this classic rifle. We head out to the range in the summer heat to troubleshoot sight heights and run some grouping tests with different pellets like Webley VMX, Wasps, and Milbro Caledonians to see which one performs best.
