The question of how they decide the weather is interesting, but I honestly think the idea of it being a bunch of paperwork is funny.  Like every year Applejack has to fill out a form saying how much of what plants she is planting and how much water and how frequently they need it and submit that to the Pegasi so the Pegasi can figure out how much of the different types of weather to use that year.  Kinda like tax season

There's a fan theory that Equestria is on a dying planet. It explains that their sun and moon are dying as well, and that's why they need to be manually moved. Additionally it explains why locations we see outside of equestria where the ponies don't live ate so often barren, such as Kludgetown or the Dragon Lands. Yakyakistan is another example of extreme conditions. The theory isn't perfect, but it's very similar to what you were talking about here.

Remember, Pony society is built on the idea that if they don't all get along, they will be frozen together forever by the windigos.

I think that it is fair to assume that the pony world is failing to maintain its natural processes and the ponies are keeping it going through sheer magic.

And they're just so gosh darn happy about it that you don't notice

Because friendship is magic

I love that the mlp fandom is still alive and active even though the series ended 7 Years ago

Equestria is a harmonious dictatorship, where absolute power is concentrated in the monarch who uses it for the good of the people. They get around the "Dictator Gamble" by picking a dictator that is both immortal and benevolent. I believe this is less intentional and more the result of power slowly centralising in Celestia's hands as she earned people's trust and demonstrated the capacity for good rulership. However, this does make the problem of succession a challenge, which is why the entirety of Friendship is Magic is Celestia's attempt to find a suitable heir and groom her for rulership.

Something to remember? The three races of ponies are required to get along: Open hatred will call down the wendigos, who will then freeze the region, and presumably consume those who called them down. Basically, enforced friendship is a required part of their entire species survival, and that, in and of itself, feels pretty dark; "Everyone get along, lest the looming threat of frostbite and death claim us all!"

An aside: Nightmare Moon's future actually showed that her Eternal Night, isn't dangerous. Remember, she'd ruled for quite some time, in that future, and there were still plants, and everypony still survived. Even seemed peaceful, if strict.

Considering that for a significant amount of the ponies' history, magical/natural forces threatened to wipe them out, it feels like a logical outcome that they would end up controlling most things. Just look at what the rest of the world looks like in the movie. It's mostly arid wastes. As for the sun and moon, something either happened that made manual control necessary, or some being has always done it manually and that ability has been passed down on some cosmic level.

3:25 apparently Equestria was oryginally a tidally locked planet. It allowed life to bloom only on that thin strip of land that wasn't dark/frozen or bright/burning (tho creatures like dragons or Shadowpony etc could be adjusted to living on those exreeme sides as well). Ponies stared the day/night cycle as an attempt to spread the teperate enviroment that they thrive in :3

Now that I think about it, It's actually kinda a dictatorship.

I love when YouTubers go down a rabbithole and decide to share their findings with us viewers lol

The world was probably all Everfree before they came there too

The Pegasus communicate with the earth ponies and they tell what they need for plants.

It's not just the Everfree forest, they do not control the weather in the Dragon Lands, or the places visited in the 2017 movie. Nor do the residents of those lands show any respect to Celestia and Luna for controlling the sun and moon. Also, no villian is concerned that killing or stripping Celestia and Luna of their power will affect the day and night. All evidence suggests that the weather, the sun, and the moon are perfectly functional without ponies. We've seen ponies influence all three, but ability to influence is does not mean they are essential for weather, the sun, or the moon to function.

My personal theory is that the planet lost his rotation for some reason, and ponies don't rotate it with magic, they just move the luminic spectrum, that needs infinitely less power and avoid the most physical implications that kill everyone in the real world 😊

i wonder how ponies think about the natural process outside of Equestria. we see Zecora lives in the Everfree forest and isnt afraid of it so i wonder how she and the culture she comes from veiws it. and i just noticed the name Everfree is referring to how ponies dont control it.

You know I always thought about what's like outside of the Equestria with the whole seasons thing and my idea is that each land has their own ways of controlling the weather and seasons

Like maybe diamond dogs control the weather and seasons through powerful gems

I always assumed that the ponies where an alien species that terraformed a planet and that the sun that celestia has to raise is some kind of dwarf star outside of the planets orbital pull. Yaknow since its not forcibg gravity on the planet

I theorised a while ago that the entire world of mlp is actually the remain of broken civilisation that relied on extremely advanced bio technologie which is what the unicorn call "magic" they just don't realise that it is, also i believe the entire is being regulated by some kind of constuct which keeps everything going, and those sometime might (after thousand of thousands of years) started glitching or just went off, which would explain the presence of a desert in the middle of no where, the malfunction of the water cycle in equestria. Also if you look at it in a certain way, the changelings kingdom was a barren place until the black stone throne was destroyed, which i'll remind you is a magic inhibitor, but when it's gone, vegetation starts to come back as if something (maybe deep underground) was responsible for the gestion of the entire ecosysteme (which is not natural if that is true). I have a lot of theories on the subject and i plan on either making a video essay on this at some point or further develop it in my AU. So yeah glad someone else finaly noticed

I'd imagine that if anypony decides on messing with the weather, then thats an instant Death Penalty by Celestia cuz like that can kill the entire nation.

I think that this is why they are in harmony too, they're focused on taking care of the planet and eachother through magic instead of having a monopoly on factories and slaves
