Fun fact: Varig, the airline displayed on the thumbnail was actualy the biggest passenger version MD 11 owner with a grand total of 26 units.
My experience with this aircraft as a kid back then was with Varig including flights on board the two only Star Alliance livery painted MD-11 ever painted (PP-VTH and PP-VTU) which happen to be ex-Swissair planes acquired by Varig after Swissair's bankrupcy.

The md-11 is actually one of the most powerful commercial planes. It can accelerate quickly and climb at up to 6500 fpm comfortably

It's not that it isn't high enough off the ground - it's that it does not have enough of a dihedral on the wings at the root to make ground clearance for the engines.

You need to do old planes have thin long engines and newer have fatter and shorter

MD-11 is by no way sluggish. The MD-11 together with the 757 probably have the best thrust to weight ratio of any commercial liner around. It is common to see loaded MD-11/757 climbing like home-sick angels.
