Steve I have found that if you wash and rinse in cold water, it will minimize the flash rust. When I used to wash off with hot water, it would instantly flash rust. Just a tip and insight. Love your content, I have learned alot of information from you channel.

This is exactly the kind of content that got me hooked on cast iron restoration! Your attention to detail using vinegar is spot on. I'm a fellow restorer down here in East Texas and your work has been a huge inspiration for my own channel (East Texas Duct Tape). Love seeing the cast iron community grow and share knowledge; there's something special about bringing these old pieces back to life. Keep up the amazing work! 🔥

I found a cast iron Lodge over at Goodwill and I tried to do what you suggested and thus far it's coming out perfect 80 and a 60 Grit

As a long time subscriber, I can tell you with confidence Steven’s cleaning videos are good, well done, and very informative. Take some time to go through his cleaning and seasoning videos.

I remember grandpa heating his pans in the oven to “get it ready” as he said … then he would completely submerge the hot pan into an oil bath for a coupla hours. He’d do this step 3 or 4 times. I’m 79 and his pans Still cook good 😄👍🏼😄 (I think I might fry some mullet to see if it works ok)😄👍🏼🙏🏼Y’all be blessed

Nice work Steven. I learned how to restore cast iron by watching your early videos and its interesting that Ive made the same tweaks to the process that you have shown here. Also, pay no mind to folks worried about the little bit of surface rust that didnt come off with vinegar...some cooking will convert that rust from Fe3O2 (red rust) to FeO (black rust) and itll fall off on its own while using the pan and then successive layers of seasoning over time will cover the iron conpletely again. Rust is harmless - you dont need to get every little spec off to get a functioning piece that will hold seasoning well enough. It takes about a year of good use to make a newly restored pan have a robust seasoning on it that doesnt require maintenance seasoning regularly.

Yooo, God BLESS! Do stoked to see a brother of the faith at the end here! Setting up my first electrolysis tomorrow and you've helped me know all that I need!

Thank you!

This was very satisfying to watch. It is the process I use, and it works very well. I have a griddle with a gate mark that I should restore this winter.

Thank you Steve for showing us how you restored that great old pan. It looks amazing after your hard and detailed work. I always learn so much from your videos and look forward to your future ones.

Thanks for the video. I just got 3 cast iron pans from a farmer friend who didn’t want them. They had been in a dilapidated barn and exposed to the weather for years. One is a Griswold 10 skillet, one is a Wagner Ware Fat Free Frier griddle, and the other is an unmarked square shallow skillet. I will be using your method to restore them.

Glad I found this, as my dad took one of my mom's skillets out to the garage when they were killing hogs and brought it in the other day a rusted abomination. He's lucky she didn't beat him over the head and kill him with it 😂

I typically use BuzzyWax to season my cast iron and carbon steel pans, but I'll probably pick up a tube of yours to give it a try. The stick applicator looks easy.

I loved your video. Not only did you fix the pan, which I thought was impossible. But your video editing skills are equally impressive. Keep up the good work. I’ll look for your other videos.

Thank you for the in depth explanation of how to restore cast iron. I have 5 or 6 pans and one looks like it was made for cornbread. The tips that are in the slice pattern are caked with some kind of greasy goo. I'm going to try the vinegar soak and see if that helps. I'm very ill and can't breathe well so I'm not sure about the scrubbing part but I'm going to give it a try! God Bless you and Thank you for the Bible verse. I like supporting Christian YouTubers!

Really enjoy your cast iron restoration. Great presentation and educational. I recently acquired a Benjamin Medwin 11 1/2 pan and I really enjoy it. I have other nice collective pans from Good old USA but this one is my favorite even though it’s an Oriental pan.
