At the time of this battle Britain was alone, Hitler didn't attack Russia until after this, Russia had signed a peace agreement with Germany.

We owe these guys everything. We shall never forget! Wear your Poppy with pride.

At the time of the Battle of Britain the UK was pretty much alone. The USSR thought they had a pact with Germany and only joined the conflict later.

We are only a small island nation. Nice, good living, welcoming, patient and proud people, but in the face of adversity, a fiercely determined, tenacious people, with a massive military history, who consistantly punch far above our own weight. We are not an enemy to be taken lightly. So for those who may think we are a soft touch, be very careful what you wish for.

This is why we are SO proud of our Spitfire pilots, young people today do not realise how much we owe to these brave men and women......

My mum used to watch the dogfights as a little girl in South West London. She said one day a german bomber crashed right in the middle of the street her school was on. The pilot apparantly told the soldiers who captured him he had to drop bombs but would not kill children by crashing into their school.

The physical strain and stress of having to go up 2 to 3  times in one day is unimaginable..bravo to all the spitfire and hurricane pilots.  The ground crews  radar ops and plotters all played an amazing part.

I’m 68 years old now, I was born in 1953 when I was a  teenager I asked my mother what it was like in the war,   We lived in bootle in Liverpool, she told me  she was 10 years old and was very lucky as her dad came from Wales  so she had aunts and uncles there so her mum and dad sent her to wales, when Liverpool was bombed her dad became a fireman  who put out the fires when the houses were bombed,  he saw some horrific injuries, to people that didn’t get to the shelters quick enough, my mums mother worked in the ammunition’s factory making bombs for the military a dangerous job, when the war was over and my mum came home her parents told her their house had been bombed and all her toys and everything had gone by the time she came home she was a teenager and not long after was school   Leaving  age she went on to become a legal  secretary for a law firm , I’m so proud of my grandparents and everyone who  worked hard to defend Briton xxx

Its THE most important battle in the history of the modern world.  If Britain had lost and been occupied , with 75% of the USA still reluctant to join the war in Europe,. There would have been an agreement signed between Hitler and Roosevelt to not interfere with eachother.  Japan attacking the US at pearl harbour and in the pacific would of course provoked the US, But they had a very under prepared military in 1941. If they retaliated then They would have faced Japan in the pacific and the Germans on the Atlantic coast, which they could not have won at that time. Plus Hitler losing to The UK made him suddenly decide to invade Russia, and we all know what happened there. It is literally THE watershed moment of the modern Free world.  This is where Churchills speech " Never the the history of human combat has so much been owed by so many to so few"  Comes in. Those airman of the RAF literally and actually saved the free world

A lot of the ground services in the UK were given to women. They even worked in aircraft factories, munitions factories, and as you see here, in RAF buildings. They even flew new Spitfires and Hurricanes (and many other aircraft types) from the factories to their assigned squadrons. They played a huge role in the war effort.

It baffles me that you could barely understand him because of his accent, I can understand very strong American accents from the south etc. It’s actually hard for me to believe lol

Quote.....

" While we were fighting for our lives,  what were the Americans doing ?.

Singing Uncle Sam with their thumb up their Arse .     They let us rot"

RAF

Thank you for showing such a respectful response.  All these fighters and civilians deserve it.

The 'Keep calm and carry on' slogan was to be used by Britain in the event of invasion
If Britain had failed, then he USA could not have used  Britain as a staging post to invade France in June 1944

I can't thank my grandparents more. My dad's dad was one of the first over on D-day, my mum's dad was a medic for pilots landing in Biggin Hill South England. Neither spoke about what they witnessed, only now do I realize and understand what they delt with. ❤️😔

The title should be: The 13 hours that saved CIVILISATION.

Churchil said "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."

Thankyou Sir!
Finally an American who doesnt think the U.S.won the war on their own...All three of the Allied powers that defeated the Nazis were indispensable to one another..
Let's acknowledge each others roles rather than dismissing them...

It's always given me great pride to have served in the Royal Air Force for 12 years as an aircraft technician. I was lucky to have taken part in the parade for the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain on the 15 September 1990. Per ardua ad astra

I believe around 50-55% of operations personnel were women during second world war in Britain. They were also working in factories building and testing planes. Driving buses, working on farms. Driving ambulances, and mechanics. Everyone did their bit to help in the war effort
