The Royal Navy is the Senior Service, as it’s the oldest, and the Royal Air Force is the youngest which is why they’re the last of the three main branches

The Merchant Navy should be really popular. They were the ones keeping everyone supplied during the wars, including getting food to the civilians.

The amount of precision with their movements is amazing.

How we owe the merchant navy. When I am at sea in the North Atlantic I look at that dark cold sea I honour the merchant navy I want to cry.

Jerusalem makes me tear up everytime I hear it. Beautiful 😍

Jerusalem is almost an alternative national anthem. The Women's Institute also has it as its anthem. It was sung at my wife's funeral - she was presidnet of our local WI.

Thanks for posting, Mark. The UK has many traditions and is very reverential regarding the Service of Remembrance. Did you know that the Poppy was first used in the United States but some how has fallen out of use on Veterans Day. I'm 72 years old and I remember when Poppys were sold here in the United States.

The Royal Navy is the Senior Service and always takes precedence.

So appreciative of your recording of this stirring event.

The Navy is always first because it is the 'Senior Service', in other words, the oldest Military Service in the U.K.

Mark, im sure other peoole here will suggest this too...13 Hours that Saved Britain....it was made for Battle of Britain Day few years ago...BRILLIANT ..even the youngsters who have reacted on here have been impressed...as ex RAF and daughter of Battle of Britain pilot ...one of 'the few' i am proud of my late dad and his peers who saved this country..but not just them the sheer bliodymindedness and stoic bravery of the British was unbelievable. Take a look I know youll enjoy.

The navy is called the senior service which is why the come in first followed by the army with the Air Force being the younger.

We are an Island...the Navy were first, then the Marines came along...soldiers serving on board sailing ships, then the Army proper...then hundreds of later the Air Force...which, any RAF veteran like me will tell you they never..ever....let you bloody forget!😂😂😂😂😂 they take the Mick big time at any Inter Forces Competition....we just rose above it..😂😂😂😂

Mark, you should see the Chelsea Pensioners marching in at the same event. Those old men and women, retired to the Royal Hospital Chelsea after decades of service in the army, march down the stairs as smartly as the young, present day soldiers despite them all being in their 70s and 80s.

The Navy is the Senior Service which existed in England before the Army or the Air Force was formed

@frankparsons1629 3 years ago

The Royal Navy are the Senior Service, even during the Civil War (c.1655) the Army per se was barely being formed, it was embryonic. The modern Royal Navy traces its origins to the early 16th century and prior to that in maritime engagements during The Hundred Years War (14th & 15th Centuries).

The Merchant Navy doesn't get as much honours as the others, but boy! They bleed and died during the Second World War trying to keep our shipping and supplies coming into the UK. American merchant navy lost a lot too during that. Unsung heroes, in a way. They don't get to fight, but without them, those that DO fight will quickly be unable to continue.
