Actually if u want good Greek food worth ur money go to places like Vyronas some local places will cost you lesser

A couple of things to help you in future:

Come to the table with some basic Greek. It goes a long way.

Ask the staff what they would recommend from their menu. We Greeks are proud of our cuisine and our tavernas. They are family run and want to showcase their cooking.

Finally stay away from the tourist hotspots. Try Koukaki, Pangrati, Kerameikos etc. Close to the centre and walkable.

Ok i gotta tell you a lot of things here. And yes i am greek and i studied in athens as well but i wouldnt dare continue my life there. Its so filthy and depressive to stay there that i stopped.

Anyways your first and only mistake is going to omonoia. Thats a scumplace you dont want to be EVER.

About the restaurant: if you ordered plain tzatziki with nothing else its actually weird. Imagine you re in some english restarant where you order just the sauce of the baked beans. Idk i just try to find a comparison but the waiter was probably confused and thought maybe you wanted only the beer instead. Misscommunication always happens so idk what you asked afterwards multiple times but i d give them a wakeup call.

And no dont worry we dont have such a weird culturish etiquette that pisses us off if broken(we are just hard race-ists(just kidding)

I think your first mistake was not understanding the food culture in Greece. Almost everything is served family style so the portions for something like salad are big and meant to be shared. Secondly, tzatziki is a dip not a dish so the waiter was likely confused when you ordered a very large beer and a plate of tzatziki. 😜 Could have been easily resolved by communicating with the waiter.

Re the Carol comment and your missing word.....is it salient, pertinent, relevant?  But overall, as a solo traveller some restaurants immediately write you off as ,ow return. They know you won't be spending a lot so can't be arsed basically 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you just ordered a beer and tzatziki, they probably thought you were joking! It’s like going to a fish and chips shop and just ordering a beer and tartare sauce.
Then again, mistakes happen. A few days ago, we went to a pub in Bournemouth and ordered four beers and four burgers. We finished our first drinks and ordered a second round, but the food was nowhere to be seen. It turns out our order never even made it to the kitchen, so we ended up leaving hungry. At least they apologised and gave us the second round of beers on the house!

Why didn't you ask where was your tzatziki?   I think you could have asked...

Brother, you just walked through Athens slums, I hope thats not all you saw of Athens, which isn’t even where the beauty of Greece is found... consider what  you showed  as the equivalent of areas such as  Bulwell, Aspley, St Ann's, and Radford in Nottingham, you know what I  mean, and despite that, the level of anti social crime in Athens is way lower then in Nottingham

Also avoid the tourist traps to avoid negative experiences, you've  been around enough to know that, unless you're trying to portray a place in a negative light.
