Two days exploring the streams of the Echigo-Shimoda mountain range.
We walked along the shore of Lake Kasabori, occasionally swimming, to the Okawa River. We crossed the gorge with its cold water, passed through snowfields, and continued further upstream.
Four years ago, we had to retreat due to hypothermia at the confluence of Washigasawa, but this time we went even further upstream. As the stream became calmer, the surroundings transformed into a beautiful forest of beech and oak trees.
At Obunazawa, we enjoyed the fish-stopping waterfall, rock towers, and beech forest, and the next day we descended Kuratanizawa. Kuratani-zawa is a memorable place for me, as it was the site of my first ever stream climbing trip six years ago.

This is a two-day stream climbing trip in Echigo.
