I was a teenager during the Satanic Panic in the US in the 80s to early 90s and remember it vividly.  You're absolutely right, it was free advertising for heavy and death metal bands.  The only way to discover new bands was the news, radio, MTV,  Headbanger's ball, word of mouth and by going to concerts.  My first concert was in the pit at the Scorpions World Wide Live Tour in 1984.  I had just turned 13 and I was immediately indoctrinated into the world of metal.  Over 4 decades later, I'm still rockin.  Thanks for your upload, it brought back a lot of memories!  🤘🤘🤘

Im my opinion, Trey is the absolute most actual CREATIVE guitar player in the entire metal genre.

This channel reminds me of what the continuation of MTV and headbangers ball would have looked like.  I really enjoy the old school TV style these episodes have

I interviewed Trey for a local magazine once. He is truly a mad genius. A cool cat to talk to.

Props to anyone who can wear a leather jacket n the Tampa heat and humidity!

My first "real" gig I went to was Morbid Angel in 1991. Never heard them before.
I went to see Dragon and Sadus, the other two bands were Unleashed and Morbid Angel which were completely unknown to me.
Unleashed knocked my socks off but Morbid Angel was a revelation.
They just released their Blessed Are The Sick album and next day after the gig I ran to the shop and bought a cassette.
This album stayed with me to this day as one of the best Death Metal albums ever.

Morbid Angel and Deicide are bands that just smashed all expectations and were formative  for so many teenagers growing up in the 90’s. What a fantastic time to grow with all that ❤

The GOATS of Death Metal.

Definitely needs a Pt 2 to this story....great job

Let me tell you exactly how Morbid Angel developed their sound as I was around for it, Cocaine, Speed, Meth and Alcohol was the helping factor. Yes Trey was into occult stuff, reading about it and surrounding himself with the imagery, and yes he believed he was actually accomplishing things musically from it. The reality is, partying around town and always having his guitar with him, playing nonstop for days high on whatever is what developed his skills, this goes for many other well known musicians in the Death Metal and Thrash Metal Scene. A certain storage unit facility became the center for many bands, they rented units and used them to practice in and for some live in. On any given day that place would have many bands all playing and creating what would become the Florida Death Metal scene. It was one giant party up in there. Morbid just so happened to become the largest band to rise up out of it. Don't get me wrong they worked their asses off and dedicated most of their time to get where they did, but I'm telling you that certain lifestyle choices definitely helped with that, it wasn't any Ritual shit or devil worship crap that gave them the advantage it was just part of their image even though Trey was at times a little more believing in it and convinced it was the advantage. Trey had a broader ear for music then most in the scene and those influences creeped in over time and helped set them apart. Trey was experimenting on guitar so much he had to have a recorder going because he would come up with riffs and not know how to play it the same twice, this might be why he believed the gods were directing him to play what they liked but really it was because he was tweaking his ass off going a hundred miles an hour so he couldn't retain everything that was coming out if him. If you were around him and also playing guitar he would be quick to take something you were playing, change it and make it his own, usually complicating the riff to the point it just became something completely different. There was a lot of great stuff that never got developed into anything because it was just coming out in droves. He would dissappear for a few days from the party scene and show up again with a more structured song and the band would then develop it into what you'd finally here on the demos then later the albums. I can't really speak much on the other guys in the band as my existence with them was minimal in comparison. I'll finish up by saying that no matter how these guys developed what became the Mighty Morbid Angel they worked hard, were dedicated and did what they wanted with extreme confidence and no mercy

Saw them live several times but my favorite time was when Covenant came out. I saw them on the Covenant tour when they played Detroit and after the show me and my buddy hung out with Pete the feet next door to the venue. We smoked so much weed in about an hours time that I think I was stoned for a month. Pete could smoke down. Kept rolling them he kept the lighting them. (I think we toasted 3/4 of an ounce in about 45 mins!) and it was fun talking to him while we got fucking wrecked.😊 He made fun of other Death metal drummers. Imitating their beats playing air drums and dramatically looking bored 😂. It was an awesome show and Pete was a laid back, hilarious, totally baked guy.😂

I have a funny story with morbid Angel. I actually used the song “hatework” to scare out a bunch of college students that were throwing party at my apartment on a day I had to work.. one of my roommates invited a friend over and that friend invited a bunch of people over without my approval. This day I had to work overnight so I was sleeping during the day always to wake up with a bunch of people being loud obnoxious. Instead of getting angry, I turned over to my boombox and put the album on and cranked the volume up. You should’ve seen how fast everybody cleared out that apartment…

Cannibal Corpse, Obituary,Morbid Angel and Death have been some of my favorites from Death Metal

I appreciate the fact that you include snippets of many release you reference. It helps greatly with context, or as a refresher, or if the viewer has just never listened to the material.

Formulas is an album filled with spells.  Thats why the lyrics are so strange.  If you sing along you are casting spells, for what its worth.

1980's death metal demo's were always the best because it was a one take, all in recording. Raw and brutal.

Thank you for giving one of my favorite bands the treatment they deserve 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

I remember that Beavis & Butt-Head episode. I was 10 years old and I had to find that album. Needless to say my parents were scratching their heads but being some off the coolest mom and dad i got it for my next birthday.
🤘😎🤘

Formulas fatal to the flesh is my favorite Morbid Angel album. Mostly because the lyrics transcend the typical "satanic" fair and are really quiet beautiful in a historical kind of way.
