Sorta sounds like a minor Misty

Aimee...couple years ago when I first saw this 'learn a tune in a week' lesson I said' no way I can do that...'  now I'm learning multiple songs in a week to get ready for gigs!!!  Just goes to show ya ...you don't have to be great to start but you just have to keep going...thanks!!!

Aimee, you represent exactly what you and my other teachers tell me. Longevity and life-long growth. I swear, I hear something new and wonderful about your playing every time I hear you! I never heard you when you were in college or just having graduated (since I probably was way too young or not born), but I swear you’ve always had it in you, even when you were working on your fundamentals. All this to say, thank you for inspiring folks like myself who are just starting out (I’m 22 and in college on a jazz studies degree) and your playing always gives me hope and ease that I’ll hopefully swing one day

In an interview with Marian McPartland on "Piano Jazz", Marian recalled Bill Evans saying he likes to takes his introspection to a high level. "I'd rather play one tune for twenty four hours than play twenty four tunes in an hour."

I started doing this about 12 weeks ago. I learn a tune a week, and have begun posting them on my Youtube Channel. It's really helped me develop my ear on picking out melodies and chords without having sheet music. I pretty much follow your process.

The three notes from 13:04 and the 4th and 6th that followed right after at 13:10 tormented my brain for hours until I finally figured out what it was reminding me of. Mad world, as sung by Gary Jules.
I would love to hear you sing it in one  of your live streams. It would be perfect with your voice.

I had watch "A Tune A Week" video two weeks ago and now I have a upgrade video. Very cool, thanks a lot for sharing Aimee!

What a treasure to have videos like this from you. I wish there was something like this for guitar.

Kudos for what you do to heighten the interest in developing the chops, for performing this great music. As an electric and upright bassist, I have always appreciated the intricate beauty created by an ensemble's rhythm section, when blending the syncopated modal chords in a piece, that the great jazz composers were so well noted for. You personify the difference between a musician, and someone who plays a piano.

Incidentally, I love George Shearing. He was one of the first jazz bandleaders to racially integrate his group; as well as include the addition of a female vibraphonist. He couldn't see color but he could definitely hear music! And, the world was made a better place because of it. But then,  music has a way of making the world a better place. 🎹🎸🎷🎺🎶

I’ve been doing this process off and on to a certain extent with tunes for about a year now, though I’m not nearly as disciplined about getting it done in 1 week.  Watching a pro like you go thru the process was absolutely invaluable and gives me a renewed focus to stick with this approach. Thank you!

Your vocals are gorgeous.

I wanted to tell you something interesting I discovered while I was listening to Johnny Hartman and the John Coltrane Quartet, trying to learn the song, Autumn Serenade, and I was paying close attention to the form. After Trane solos, Hartman comes back in on what I thought was the B section and sings the tune out. The band is playing just like it is the B section, but Hartman sings the lyrics from four bars AFTER the B section (Love was ours, until October wandered by) and the band plays AT B, until they realize that Hartman is 4 bars ahead of the rest of them (they all play an Ebmi+7 chord but quickly switch to an Fmi) and then they all just catch up and end the tune. I’ve listened to this song a bunch of times over the years, but never noticed this until I was really paying attention. I wonder if when the recording ended whether they even discussed what had happened or if Coltrane just knew that it wasn’t really that big of a problem and moved on. Maybe they were in a time crunch? Maybe he liked the spontaneity of it all? I don’t know, but I like to try to imagine what might have gone on. I’m glad they left it that way though. So beautiful. Thoughts anybody?

This is great.  But all throughout the practice session, the focus was on playing with a band and then at the end you played the arrangement in solo mode!  Not fair!   So I might need to work on my walking bass too.  I definitely laughed hard when you ended the video with "it's a lot of work isn't it".  Yes, certainly is... but man it's fun.  Thank you for all you do.
