IonQ’s roadmap, when cross-referenced with the emerging threat to modern cryptography, looks roughly like this: *2026: 100–256+ physical qubits, 12 logical qubits and logical error rates below 10⁻⁷; 2027: 10,000 physical and 800 logical qubits; 2028: 20,000 physical and 1,600 logical qubits; 2029: 200,000 physical and 8,000 logical qubits; 2030: 2 million physical and 80,000 logical qubits.* IonQ estimates that *19,397 physical qubits and 1,457 logical qubits* could be sufficient, under its qLDPC architecture, to execute Shor’s algorithm against *secp256k1 (Bitcoin)* in roughly 26 days. However, this is an *architectural estimate, not a demonstrated capability**, and no quantum computer today can perform such an attack. Therefore, **2027 (800 logical qubits) would still be below IonQ’s estimated requirement, while 2028 (1,600 logical qubits) would enter roughly the range required for such an attack**.
