One of the most important tools for a woodworker is a jointer. Without the first two for references, nothing else will be square or precise.
I’ve found that this is a tool that takes a lot of practice to perfect, because technique depends on the piece of wood you’re flattening.

Wow! That is the best demonstration of flattening a board that I have seen! I have reasonable woodworking experience and I basically gave up on this skill. I flatten boards through the thickness planer using a sled and shims. But thanks to your instruction on where to apply pressure during the cut, I will give it another try!

Great video! I'm new to woodworking and recently purchased a used jointer. I was under the impression that a jointer would create 2 flat sides (90 degrees) and then you would run the board through a planer (flat side down) to flatten the other side? Is this just an alternate way of doing it or am I mistaken? Thank you!
