This is a video of the Feb. 26, 1981 National Hockey League game between the Minnesota North Stars and the Boston Bruins, which had a record-breaking brawl at the Garden.
It is from the WSBK TV-38 Boston broadcast, with Fred Cusick on play by play and Johnny Peirson on color.
The first fight came just 7 seconds into the game, matching Boston's Steve Kasper and Minnesota's Bobby Smith. By the time the first period (more than an hour and a half long) was over, 341 penalty minutes had been assessed by referee Dave Newell and 12 players (seven North Stars and five Bruins) were ejected.
By game's end, both teams had been called for 42 penalties and penalized a total of 406 minutes, an NHL record.
The rough stuff didn't immediately help Minnesota, which entered the game 0-27-7 at the Garden, as Boston won, 5-1. But the North Stars got their revenge as they beat the Bruins, three games to none, in the preliminary round of the playoffs, taking the first two in Boston.
