Vivian's Lesson in the Bosal

Pat & Deb Puckett

We recently had the pleasure of having a student from China spend a few days riding with Pat. Vivian's goal is to take the essence of our style of horsemanship back to her home country. This video is from a lesson with Pat in the bosal. Vivian is riding my horse, Cinder, who has never been ridden in a bosal until now. We have a new friend and wish her the best in her horsemanship journey.

Deb I hope your leg is healing well. It’s really cool that Vivian is dedicated in learning about the Californio horsemanship and taking it to China. This made my day. That someone on the other side of the world sees the value in this and just how light it can be.

Wow, that was a treat for Vivian and generous for Pat to offer his mount. Fun to watch a new rider feel successful communication. Thanks for your video

Very cool video. I learned a lot, of course, as usual, but it's also great to see the spread of Pat and Deb's influence reaching across the oceans and continents. It would also be fun to learn more about Vivian's story.

I could train and (listen) with you and Deb all day. Not that you would want me to... LOL Great episode!

Wow! See what true partnership is with Pat and Chinaco when you see how Chinaco is with another rider up.
My late husband's horse is like this. He's well trained and will do what i ask, but it is never to the degree that he did for my husband, who spent years with him .

Great video Pat & Deb! Hope your leg is healing well Deb!😊 Pat, I loved this video, I will watch it over and over again to learn and work on with my horse. I luv all the xtra tidbits of info that you tell. These items, side passing, backing, that turning when she was leaning forward, very nice,, and are all things we'll work on with my horse. 😢
Can you please explain in another video more about your rein placement and the leg cues,. Thank you😊❤

I haven't heard the term gimp in 40 years! Anyway, Deb I wish you a speedy and full recovery. Wow, none of our horses will back up with that much determination. Very impressive. Any suggestions to get them past dragging their feet? I imagine Vivian, the young lady from China, learned a lot on her visit.

Hello Sir, i Just Watched that Video, great how your Hirse doing that. My question, If unser your sitting, your Leg Position, and then i watch Vivians sitting, ist her Seat Not " unrelaxed", i mean IT Looks Like No free legs.
IS that effecting the horse too?
Vivian Looks Like a Rider Like even German Trainers Put Student s in a Seat. I Always felt unbalanced.
Thanx.
Greetings from Germany

I wanted to ask1 question, and make 2 comments. Looking at Vivians's seat, are Vivian's stirrups slightly too short? To me it looks like she's an English rider in a western saddle. It's been my observation that people learning to do a lot of these maneuvers struggle because they can't really feel what their horses feet are doing.
