In this video, I have a Plantation Barbados Rum Review. I am looking at the Plantation Barbados 5yo Rum from Barbados and comparing it to the Doorlys 5yo Rum from Foursquare. I'm trying to find the best Barbados rum to sip neat and the best Barbados rum for cocktails.

Bought a bottle a month ago and it is so delicious. Haven't had a sip of it this year tho, since I'm trying to have less alcohol now, but will have a glass tomorrow before going to a friends birthday party!

Great video Steve. I always enjoy your honesty and keeping to your price ceiling for us common folk.

For the Plantation Barbados 5 Year, it goes for about $90 here in Australia.

Hi Steve, I remember enjoying P5 and coke for me the coconut came out which I really liked.

Plantation 5yo is absolutely fantastic as a sipper.

One of my favorites for neat sipping. Only $23.99 here in Ohio, U.S.

21.99 (Total Wine) and 23.99 (local liquor store)- Indiana USA

This used to be a regular for me when my local Asda stocked it, and I only sipped it rather than mixing. I need to revisit as I used to find it a lovely drop!

Digressing slightly Steve - Mount Gay. Massive long shot but through your contacts, is there anywhere that still might have odd bottles of the Allan Smith blend Black Barrel? I know it’s going to be a needle in a haystack …… I love that rum

I have tried this rum a couple of times and it's excellent on the rocks. 16g/l of sugar. I recently bought a bottle of Doorlys 5 and it more sharp, with an oaky bitterness (I like it). I think I am starting to appreciate unadulterated rums the more I try, though the Plantation 5 is good.

I agree.....
Plenty of great options for under 50 Pounds/ Euro/ Dollars.
Keep it real !

Great video! How do you compare this to Jamaican rums? can we substitute?

@ethanlitwin3757 2 years ago

Totally respect your view. For me, if I am sipping rum neat, which is rare, I’m sipping Foursquare ECS. And my go to white rum is Probitas/Veritas (which, to be fair, is more Jamaican than Bajan). So Indo drink quite a bit from Barbados. But I agree that they are not really cocktail rums. The big exception is Real McCoy 12, which makes the best Corn n’ Oil ever. Just a bit of JDT Falernum and skip the lime. It’s about $50 here. Fantastic value.

The Pineapple rum aged in Teeling barrels is great and I’m not a huge fan of sweetened rum. Mix the pineapple rum with ginger beer and it is so good.

Can’t seem to find it in Ontario Canada at the moment. When it was at the LCBO it was $38.95 (~£22) for 750 mL. No problem getting the Grande Reserve right now though for $34.45 (just over £20). Not sure how that one compares as it’s also listed as a 5-year-old Bajan?

I prefer the Plantation 5 Year for sipping over the Plantation Grand Reserve. But would the Grand Reserve be better in Rum Punch Steve? Could you get your hands on it?
