I guess Eragon is so bad it didn't even made this list.

I'm fascinated to know why Disney bought the rights to Artemis Fowl but then didn't fully commit to the story.

If the fans of the original book isn't going to watch it, the movie will be a flop, so what is the point

It was so funny watching the reaction to the new animated cat in the hat be “it’s just not the same without Mike Myers” and it’s like I know you loved it as a kid and it’s a funny meme movie now, but that movie’s failure is the sole reason this new one is animated.

I can’t believe we’re now doing revisionist history on the 2003 cat in the hat lmao

It's so staggering that people adapt a book as a movie and simply...ignore everything about the original. Like, who are you doing this for? The book fans will be pissed and the non-book fans won't care for the name so just make your own thing wth

World War Z. What a letdown that movie was... My god.

The Electric State was like a lobotomy to the original book.

It's hilarious to me that Stephenie Meyer ripped off Parasyte (the manga) and somehow managed to turn it into another mediocre romantic drama à la Twilight

honorable mention: the 5th wave

Ironic this comes out the same week as Wuthington Heights. I saw that movie last night and it was awful and nothing like the book.

Honorable mention: The Percy Jackson films

Watchman.
Book is about how messed up masked heros are.
The movie makes them into superheros and is about how cool superheros are. Movie makers didn't understand the source material.

I'm chronically depressed and the Artemis Fowl movie was genuinely bad for my mental health

The Dark Tower definitely deserves a place at the very bottom of this list.

I did not realized The Cat In The Hat was considered a bad movie. It’s a camp classic in my household.

Don't forget the Percy Jackson movies who aged up the main characters and stuffed multiple books into two movies. Along with disregarding book lore like not being able to use modern technology unless they wanted to attract monsters to them.

This is a comic book example, but they completely changed "The Umbrella Academy" when they adapted it for the screen.

I loved the "Animoprhs" books series growing up (even if I disagree with the endings nor the author's justification letter about it) so when I learned they were making a TV series about it, my elementary school mind was blown away.  To this day I have not been able to complete the TV series.
Which is ironic, because they changed the Andelites from standard "Grey Aliens" into "Blue fur centaurs with no moth and scorpion tails" in hopes of getting a live action adaptation that looks distinct.  But in the end just made it look cheap.

I, Robot is a very interesting case to me. Originally, it was a completely different script for a movie called "Hardwired." It had nothing to do with I, Robot. The studio, for whatever reason, changed random character names and added some general concepts like the laws of robotics, and then called it I, Robot. It really has nothing to do with the original book in any way. It's not an adaptation. However, it's still a very good movie. I really like both the movie, and the book. If you look at the two as having nothing to do with each other, the movie becomes much better.

I might have to say this again; Studios knew that these clones of other more popular stories weren't going to do as well. So, they thought that maybe if they could just skimp on the money or the runtime by cutting things out or changing them entirely. They might be able to capture the same lightning in the bottle, but none of them ever panned out and I don't think it's a coincidence that all of the rebooted TV shows did much better than their film counterparts.

3:48 kind of ironic that everybody hated it when it came out, but now it seems like most people in their mid to late twenties and early thirties Love this rendition and portrayal by Mike Myers. I will always love this movie
