The exploration of the glitch was also done by 100th Coin, who also contributed to the TAS, check out his channel here for very deep dives into NES code: https://www.youtube.com/@100thCoin

Hi I’m the guy who actually found out about this glitch…yeah uh never in a million years did I think I would help discover a speedrun trick but here I am lol

A random player: "My game crashed!"
Speedrunners: "Wait we can use that"

Me when I accidentally crash the funny bing bing wahoo game and then speedrunners look at my footage under a microscope and realize “hey actually this guy just discovered new life on an alien planet”

Pro technical players: save 0.000069s by skipping these framerules
Casual player: oh look free 20s off

20 second save is huge for any 8 bit mario game, this is awesome.

As a child I would stare at that weird box art and wonder what it meant.
I am finally at rest.

the way that "TAS-only" in SMB means "Niftski-only" never ceases to amaze me

I love how when the glitch is triggered there's 5 seconds of pure suspense. That just makes the glitch so much more enjoyable lol

13:29 “Once again, Niftski pulls a Niftski.”

The box art coincidence is pretty insane.

A few years ago, a casual player post on the Mega Man Battle Network Subreddit saying they had somehow managed to skip to the credits of the first game in the series while having just entered the final area of the game. All they had was a screenshot of the final screen and didn't have video proof. They were willing to talk to somebody who was very knowledgeable about Battle Network and this person was able to recreate the credits warp not too long after. Now, the Battle Network 1 speedrun doesn't even finish the final area of the game, doesn't even fight the final boss (granted it hasn't in many years). Just goes to show that sometimes the casuals can be the best assets.

11:04 for a second I thought he was going to say "this leaves the question of if the glitch was intended by Miyamoto and not a glitch"

Even crazier than a casual player finding a glitch is not only recording it, but posting it to the community. How many times do you think casual players experience unknown game breaking glitches without a single other person ever knowing about it? I'd bet it's higher than most would think.

As a prediction of the next shocking speedrunning controversy… TASBot found to be Niftski all along.

One of my favorite "accidentally finding a glitch" moments is when MatPat was playing the FNaF: Security Breach DLC called Ruin, and on a staircase where it wasn't allowed, he found a corner in which you can put on your mask, which is an integral game mechanic which lets you go to a "cyber world" version of the normal map. Walking around in the cyber world, he walked to the next point in the game where you'd need to go, IF you were at the point in the game where you could put on the mask. He ended up accidentally skipping a pretty big chunk of the game, and accidentally missed out on a big part of the story.
To be fair though, Security Breach is just kinda jank like that. He also had a moment in the base game where he was convinced he was supposed to jump over a gate which isn't supposed to be jumped over (and was tricky to jump over, and involves just jumping up against it repeatedly), went down the staircase behind it, and hit the trigger to activate one ending of the game once you go back up the stairs.
I'm pretty sure the devs fixed the gate by adding an invisible wall above it, but I don't know if they ever fixed the corner of the stairs being an area where you can put on the mask.

The baits at the end of the video were crazy lol

2:25 "In regular conversation, the word sprite is typically used to refer to moving objects on a screen"
No, I think it's typically used to refer to a soda

I remember not seeing the fire bar as a kid sometimes when I was hauling ass. Who'd figure it was part of all this. This is really cool to see runners manipulate the game further.

The editing on this was great. "So this probably will never happen anytime s-" "I GOT IT!" LOL that was hilarious.
