Constantinople ( Istanbul ) was the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire ( aka Byzantine Empire) from the 4th to the 15th Century. Many monumental churches were built there over the centuries.

After the Ottoman Turks conquered the city in 1453, almost all of these churches were converted into mosques.

The Hagia Sophia is rightfully the world famous example of this, but did you know that there are many other lesser known surviving Byzantine Churches in Istanbul ? We tried to visit as many as we could.

Thank you ,as always , to the hospitality of the people of the Republic of Türkiye.
