The funniest line in that movie that I believe is overlooked:

“Helps yourselves to anything in the fridge…Cereal has.”

Hackers is a proto cyberpunk story that was outside of its own timeline. That Razor and Blade foreshadowed youtube, the trolling of fbi, that the internet didnt work the way it was portrayed in the movie to the fact that it eventually would. The subtle fluidity of sexuality, fashion, and status. Its always been one of my all time faves since it came out. Ill never let go of my vhs copy

Matthew Lillard thinking Cereal wasn't the most iconic character from Hackers is peak humility and honestly kind of adorable.

I saw this movie in 1st grade at my cousins house, ironically on a hacked cable box (descrambled pay-per-view). Instantly fell in love with the concept of hacking. The sprinkler scene blew my mind. Watching that movie was literally the defining moment of my vocational life. It was 5th grade before my parents finally got us a computer. I think the years of waiting actually helped drive me. Once we got it, I EXPLODED onto that thing. Our phone line was PERPETUALLY busy, and once I figured out how to disable call waiting, it was over. I didnt watch a TV series really until DragonBall Z,Adult Swim, and House M.D. My entire childhood was spent online learning and exploring, all because of this movie

How cool is it that Matt took the time to do this interview on such a small youtube channel. No offense of course but this is somewhat unheard of and this was 6 years ago, so im sure the subscriber count was way smaller then it is now (just over 6 thousand subs). i don't know what kind of connections you have sir, but you've seemingly done the unthinkable here. You should be proud of that.

Matthew Lillard: "Whoa, this isn't woodshop class!?"

Awesome interview and cool that Matthew took the time for your small excellent channel! Cereal Killer is definitely my favorite character - his energy and unpredictable behaviour is just a joy to watch. Matthew please keep taking chances in your acting ❤️

Mathew Lillard: "Non essential character"
Best character in the movie: "Kinda feel like God."

I grew up with my parents  video store owners and eventually I worked there. The last time I looked in the system, it said I rented Hackers 77 times (for free). And I rarely watch anything twice. And I had thousands of other choices. The originality, the costumes, the music, the setting, the powerful, emotional and flamboyant performances. I mean...gaming on a huge screen in a club wearing rollerblades with your crush next to you ? It shouldn't work but it works. The Richard Gill scene is one of my favorite scene on screen ever. The directing is sooooo good. Amazing content guys, love the channel.

PLEASE MORE OF THIS!  GET THE REST OF THEM!
This movie shapped the future for so many people.

I never realized I needed such a specific YouTube channel in my life.

30 years in IT and I still love what I do. I can say 100% that movie is part of the reason I chose this career.

He's one of those actors that didn't realize he was starring in multiple movies that would go on to be cult classics. He's in a lot of films that are timeless and endlessly rewatched by fans.

For whats its worth - i have seen them all but i still come back in 2026 and njoy it again. Thansk for the content and thanks for this movie which really will forever be my absolute favorite movie.

WHAT?! CEREAL KILLER?! YEAH!

PS: After getting Mathew Lillard I absolutely have no doubt you will eventually get the hardest of them all: Angelina.

Matthew Lillard was amazing in Bosch as well. I think he is a really underrated actor. I would love to see him in more stuff.

He really sells himself short. I know he was a horny teen pretty much at the time, and has few concrete memories from his time with the movie, but he is without a doubt the most standout character, and given that he says he was given a lot of that creative leeway to become that character, sorry, but he's my favourite, thanks to his own interpretation, hands down. I know he wanted that lead role, but no one could have done Cereal anywhere as much justice as he did. His personality was about as eccentric as the costumes! I think he helped sell it.
I love this movie every bit as much as you. I may not be a collector, restorer or have a dedicated channel, so... ok, maybe I am not as much of a fan. But! I've watched the movie about once a year since it came out, I have the whole thing memorized, and yeah, definitely by far the movie I've watched the most times. Happy this exists. Much love.

I am also one of those people who ended up getting into IT because of this movie.  I was 12 when it came out and already had an interest in computers.  After see that movie, I knew I wanted to be in IT. I still love Hackers.  It's odd to say it...but that movie changed my life.

Fire video. Who's next, Jonny Lee Miller?

Still watch Hackers. Listen to all the Trance / Techno of the 90s. The best era.

The fact that Eric Corley (the real Emmanuel Goldstein) whom the character Cereal Killer quietly refers to is perhaps the biggest, currently running Easter egg in the movie. It wasn't until after the movie came out that I remember following the saga of Kevin Mitnick, covered by 2600 The Hackers Quarterly and the movie struck such a cord in me back then due to the combination of the events happening in the hacker community at the time. Best memory ever was avidly downloading and playing episodes of the show from their archive on Winamp, with Hackers playing in the background on VHS in my little TV combo. Such a trip back to memory lane...
