As tragic as it was, it made sense for Maximus to die in triumph. Even in the very beginning talking to Marcus Aurelius, Maximus spoke of wanting to go home to his family most of all things.  It has a beauty of its own.

This is not a "movie", this is "film". Epic. Amazingly written and acted. Every possible human emotion and motivation expertly captured.

So many people mention how great Joaquin Phoenix is in this role. Understandably. But, I’m more impressed with the understated and nuanced acting of Russell Crowe here. He had to balance being a bad ass as a great fighter, and the caring tenderness of a husband and father. He deserved that best actor Oscar.

"What we do in life, echos in eternity"

I must have seen this film a thousand times, it rates in my top 100 all time films, the fact that Russel was so beautiful just added to the enjoyment, plus he's one of our Aussie boys who made it in a big way.

This dude got it completely :DD i cried as well like a kid on end of movie :D  its so fkin good....

The actor who played Proximo (the Gladiator trainer) was Oliver Reed. He was an extraordinary british actor, with a very interesting, fascinating and atypical life. He also was known for his alcoholism, having some scandals on TV and cinema as a consequence of this. During the filming of Gladiator in 1999, he sadly passed away. He had been sober for months, but one night (during a break from filming the movie) in an Irish pub in Malta (after a bet), he drank three bottles of Jamaican rum, eight bottles of German beer, numerous double whiskeys and challenged five young English sailors of the Royal Navy to arm-wrestling at The Pub bar (which after this incident was called Ollie's Last Pub). His bill, which was never paid, is preserved in a decorative frame in the bar.

Amazing movie. Great cast all around. And Phoenix plays his part to perfection. Really a force here. So many great scenes between Commodus, Lucilla, Maximus and Marcus Aurelius. The ending also leaves no man untouched. Maximus wading through the field towards his home on the other side - reunited with his family.

From Australia  , this is an epic and one of modern cinema's greatest movies  , a movie I've  watched many times over the last 25 years since it came out , and one of those Gems that you just never get tired of watching , love your reaction  , Peace from down under.

This is probably the most anti-toxic masculinity depiction of a character done in movies. This awesome movie is a testament to rightfull and healthy masculinity and honor and stoicism. It is how you take it, and how much spiritual pain can you manage and still be true to your principles

I always enjoy watching your reactions the most, the crying is always so genuine and relatable. I love to see people feel film the same as I do, crying because the moment is powerful or beautiful, not only when its sad

I visited Spain in the summer and took a farm/wine tour one day. I was alone and was recording on my phone when I saw the road along with the cypress trees and said this looks like a scene from Gladiator. The tour guide heard someone say this and apparently I “messed up” her fun fact-it was indeed the road used for filming and she said if you continued on it you would end up in Rome😮

I recently listened to an interview where Russell Crowe excitedly took his father on a dream trip to Rome and visited Vatican City. He was asked if he wanted a private tour/walk through and when he asked why the guard told him he is “Decimus Maximus Meridius, the son of Rome”…that was the part that finally impressed his father😊

so great to see authentic reactions still in YT, you two are a treasure. Love the movie and even more the reactions

27:16 Ridley Scott (director) and Hans Zimmer (soundtrack) could turn an insurance commercial into an Oscar winner!!

Another great history trip with Russel Crowe is "Master and Commander"

One of my favorites, great movie and a great reaction. Thank you.

The Elysium Fields was an ancient Greek idea of what we would call heaven. A place of happiness, and when Maximus was close to dying, that glimpse of his family always gets me.
Gladiator II is a sequel, and events in this film are referenced.

Only the voice of Lisa Gerrard could made the scene of him finding his dead family so much more devastating 🥲
