We upgrade an Ubuntu 24.04 LTS desktop to Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS (Resolute Raccoon) with Software Updater, the graphical path. First we install the waiting 24.04 updates and restart, then take the upgrade offer, go through the release notes and the confirm dialog, and answer each question the upgrader asks: the libc6 service restart prompt, a changed configuration file for GDM (we keep ours), and the obsolete packages. After the restart we go through the welcome window, check the version in Settings, look at the new apps, confirm sudo-rs, and check the third-party software sources. The upgrade from 24.04 opened on September 29, 2026. Back up first: there is no supported way back to 24.04.
