Hey, I know that guy!

When you think about it, Steam's servers breaking is the final, ultimate Silkpost

When you think about it, silksongreleasing just under 9 months after the plap plap plap tweet probably means something

SILKSONG!

I love the groans @4:45 when the people in the audience who aren't familiar with the subject realize the depths of radio silence. If you look at a developer's website and the most recent post is from 2019, you'd assume that the business broke up or the dev died of COVID or something. It looks so much like vaporware.

One reason Silksong fans are so crazy is that fairly early on, in 2019 at a Nintendo treehouse live, Nintendo told us “coming soon”. So we were on the edge of our seats for a very long time

The Kid Icarus fandom has had mass psychosis similar to Silksong. They have hallucinated that a sequel to Uprising was released called Kid Icarus: Ascension and that it was the greatest thing ever. After a few years of this, the fandom moved on to posting about how excited they were for the release of Kid Icarus: Ascension 2.

53:15 shout out to Dan for landing pretty much perfectly on Team Cherry's actual reasons for The Silence. there ARE like three of them, they DIDN'T have a publicist, and they DIDN'T intend to go radio silent for as long as they did - but once they'd been dead silent for two years, they didn't want to break the silence until they were done. great insight!

Shoutout to the guy in the audience extremely into the idea of the PSP coming back. He gets it.

Anyone else coming back to this video after the actual silksong announcement?

Team Cherry had actually finished developing Silksong years ago and were waiting for Dan to make Silkposting mainstream to release 3 months after. Obviously.

From what I'm hearing, the final Silkpost should be making an entire different Silksong by yourself, and releasing it before Silksong releases.

46:42 I'm glad to know trying to get your Mom to play Portal and then being completely blindsided by their inability to even walk forward is a universal experience. If you had asked 13-year-old me before I tried this what would be the potential problems, I'd have been like, "Oh well, the game's puzzles use a bunch of funky perspective stuff and acustomizing to that might be a challange for her."  No: walking and looking were the fatal stumbling block that killed this attempt dead in 2 minutes flat. It really opened my eyes to the mechanical complexity required for a total newcomer to engage with video games, because this stuff had been a fact of life for as long as I could remember.

35:00 Is really funny after you read Jason schreier's article about why it took so long and its literally because they just chilled out in their own bubble and kept adding shit to the game. They weren't even aware of the furvor for Silksong online and only occasionally got sent silkposts by friends and family

Today is the last day that the phrase “Silksong will eventually come out” won’t be dated. Pour one out for the Silkposting community.

The best thing about the cake pfp “ARG” was that we got it right? The date the community landed on was later announced to be the Switch 2 direct, where we got 8 whole seconds of footage.

It reminds me a lot of the Balatro subreddit which became my favourite for a while. It's calmed a bit now, but for a while it was like 10% posts about the game, and 90% insane in-jokes about not just the game, but even the mods of the community. My favourite joke was the one where people would unironically post photos instead of screenshots, and it developed into an insane in joke where people would post the most ridiculous photos asking for advice, but it's like, a photo of a print out of a polaroid of a screenshot of a drawing of the game.

The elden ring subreddit essentially went through the same thing (only shorter holy hell), there were hollowings, miyazaki was memed and made transparent, geoff keighley was put in gamer prison, and after the game released, it turned into a normal subreddit! I've been there for both these games and its fun every time

I love how deranged silkposting became that someone like Dan Olson could find a way to turn it into a whole panel, and the fact that all of this was possible too because a couple of devs came outta nowhere and released such a good game, that the sequel was so anticipated that it became a meme of its own, on the same level as other “vaporware” like Half Life 3

Hilarious panel all the way through, Dan always has a way to make seemingly mundane topics much more interesting

As an update to this: When a release date for Silksong was actually given last month, Shaun did his usual post. Many people already knew of course, but it was very funny for the few who found out that way since they already knew not to trust Shaun. But of course, they did fall for it again because it was actually real that time
