🧮 Quick density check
Population density = population ÷ land area

Coeur d’Alene:
58,000 ÷ 16 ≈ 3 ,625 people per sq. mile

Boise:
239,000 ÷ 80 ≈ 2 , 987 people per sq. mile

📌 What that means
Even though Boise is much larger in both land area and population, its population density is lower. CDA has more people packed into each square mile, so Boise actually has more elbow room per person, not CDA.

Dude, you’re hilarious! I grew up here in North Idaho watch your videos, mostly because you’re funny, however, i have learned a few things about my surroundings because of your videos😂 Cheers from Laclede, Idaho!!

Perhaps I am weird, but I love the weather here in Coeur d’Alene. I enjoy the variety of temperatures throughout the year. If I get cold in the winter I just put on a favorite coat and hat. Those who live in hot places have to stay indoors to avoid it.

The breakdown between outdoor access and the job market really stood out. It seems like it comes down to what stage of life someone is in.

Informative comparison and funny! Well done.

Loved the lake(s) and geography in CDA. But I was disappointed with the town. I thought it’d be more like Bend. A nice grid of streets with an upscale feel. CDA really had just one street with a few restaurants over about three blocks. Kind of noisy too.

Pretty sure your picture of Rathdrum at 2:17 is Rathdrum Ireland. Haven’t seen cobblestone streets and brick rowhouses around here!!!

you forgot to mention that up north that median home price is for a 45 year old double wide

Spot on!

I’ll be out in both cities later this year to scope them out for future retirement spots. From your video it’s a toss up Gott get in there spend some time to see which would be a better feel.

I want to move my family out here from San Antonio, Texas. We visited Tamarack Resort last October and fell in love. We stayed in Tamarack and visited Donelly and McCall often in that time period. The main thing stopping us is work. We work in Oil and Gas and don't have work in the area. Nor is there an occupation where I could make what I make in Texas out in Idaho.

I think about leaving the treasure valley for CDL almost daily.

I've been in Coeur d Alene for decades but the one thing I will never get used to is the darkness of winter. From November thru February - 16 hours of darkness out of 24. Let that sink in.... You go to work in the dark - you come home in the dark. This confines you to the point of going stir crazy.

In the summer months it swings to 16 hours of daylight. This change happens fast. When people say they didn't stay "because of the winters" This is a huge part of the problem was. Look it up. Query - Hours of daylight Coeur d Alene ID November thru February, then hours of daylight June thru September.

I’m in love with the Coeur d’ Alene area but I need a good job market and am not thrilled with the homes I see for sale in my price bracket.

Wait! You forgot about Payette Lake, Cascade Lake, Anderson Dam Reservoir, and Lake Lowell, in addition to Lucky Peak, all within 2 hours of Boise. AND you forgot Payette River, Snake River, Owyhee River, Big Wood River, and other tributary rivers in addition to the Boise River also all within 2 hours of Boise! Not to mention the alpine lakes in the Trinities and all the various hot springs within 2 hours of Boise! You left out a TON of bodies of water within the Boise region!

You also forgot to mention Brundage, Tamarack, and Soldier Mountain ski resorts within 2 hours!

I picture a mountain home but I’m not able to go into the millions. Maybe Hayden?

Another fun fact: Boise elevation is 2703, while Coeur d'Alene is 456 feet lower, at 2247 ft above sea level.
My parents retired in Boise in 1990, I have been visiting the treasure valley for 35 years. My wife and I, much prefer the lakes and mountains over the high desert. If we can swing it, lake life will be our retirement.

I want to move from Boise to North Idaho. Boise is great, but you have been selling me on North Idaho for awhile.

@gardenerdentist 5 months ago

Not really a mention that Coeur d Alene is really a suburb of Spokane, together making it much more populous than Boise area. So all the same larger town amenities, without the Washington insanity.
