I just realized that at 21:42 or so I wrote “ibis and in body stabilization” because I was editing at 2:00am and was tired. Ibis IS in body image stabilization 🙄😂
I recently bought a 6D with 10,900 actuations for $300 and have found the camera to be fantastic. I don't do videos I just wanted a camera for stills and I could not be happier
You absolutely NAILED this video. The 6D is still my favorite camera, even over my 1D. I have over 158k on my shutter already. I am thinking about an R6, but maybe just another used 6D, not sure yet. But that 6D is just soooo dam good! I recently tried a 6Dmkii, and the image quality wasn't as good as the original so I returned it.
Really great video! I usually fast forward through longer videos, and also I knew about 80-90% of the things you mentioned, but for some reason I watched it back to back and was really impressed with how comprehensive it was. I never leave comments (until now)...so yeah...great work!
Great video, I'm glad I found this because I watched your original video on the 6D. I'm a pro photographer and have the 6D and tried the R6, I really struggle with the EVF (electronic view finder) in my humble opinion the 6D is the most underrated camera Canon has produced. I do a lot of gig (concert) photography and the 6D is truly outstanding for that. The R6 is better in many ways but to coin one of your American phrases it has more bang for its buck however the 6D is a very capable camera. And just to add something else I also own a 40D which is an old yet amazing camera, and I use it more than the 6D
I have both these cameras, so I clicked your video. Then I saw you did hair, and as a photographer for 37 years I thought oh great a hairdresser is gonna give me a photography lesson. LOL, Kudos my friend. You knocked it out of the park! You're a great speaker and you explained everything very well. Better than I explain things. So thats what I get for assuming! Great job, I love both of these cameras. I shoot weddings with the R6 and my wife shoots with the 6D. You're correct quality is very close. With the exception of the much newer processor in the R6 and the much better low light quality you get from the R6, shooting weddings that's very important. So if you ever quit doing hair I could use another photographer on staff! Never again will I pre-judge a video! Thanks again for the great job, and I subscribed to your channel. I just started a YouTube channel in Feb this year, and I am learning audio and video. Having a background as a photographer helped a lot with lighting, video took me a while. I hate my first month of videos, but I'm slowly getting there now. Thanks again for the great review!
Fun fact in regards to focus peaking. You can install magic lantern on the 6d and get some pretty cool manual focusing aids such as a very customizable focus peaking option.
I bought a 6D three years ago, and it felt like coming home, because it felt like the prototype of a high end 35 mm camera - just digital. However, it has some shortcomings: The AF in live view is rubbish, and it hasn't got a tilt and swivel touch screen. The AF in general isn't overly sophisticated, which becomes obvious when you want to shoot moving subjects. So, three weeks ago I bought an EOS 6D Mark 2 - which simply is an EOS 6D with all these shortcomings dissolved: 45 AF sensors, Dual Pixel CMOS AF in live view mode, tilt and swivel screen. Maybe the 6D Mk. 2 is the best DSLR ever made by Canon - because they will soon stop making DSLRs at all.
There is one small feature I really love with my 6D, it's the built in GPS receiver. It automatically adds a geo tag to every image you shoot (even the R6 does not have this feature). However, this feature comes with a risk. Once you activate the GPS receiver, it will run and drain the battery of your camera, even if you switch off the camera. You have to deactivate the GPS receiver separately in order to prevent that. Even this small glitch has been cured in the 6D Mk. 2: You can set up the integrated GPS receiver in a way that it stops working when the camera is switched off. It seems that Canon listened very carefully to the complaints of 6D users before launching the 6D Mk. 2.
On the other hand, today the 6D is becoming really dirt cheap, I have seen offers for 300 Euros in Germany. A 6D Mk.2 cost at least twice that money.
Hey Andrew, love your common sense videos. Just for information, you can get the flash to work in live view on the 6D classic. Just disable Silent LV shoot. It's under the second live view meny.
Yep. That's pretty much right. For studio portraiture, there's absolutely difference between a 6D and a R6. The 6D is a much better deal. Pair that with the plastic wonder lens, the EF 50mm f1.7. Take the money saved and spend it on what's truly important - lighting.
I'd suggest a Godox AD-100 and the Godox X2-Tc remote. Buy a couple of cheap light stands and umbrella softbox. Jig up some additional ways to hold Dollar Tree $0.99 white foam core boards for reflectors. This is all you'd need for very flattering and detailed clamshell style lighting. Go for butterfly style lighting for that old time 40's and 50's glam Hollywood look.
This whole kit above - camera, lens, lighting equipment should run for less than $1k.
Fabulous review, I really enjoyed that. I’m not from a studio/salon/fashion background but most of the photos I take are portraits, so it’s really interesting to see that the image quality isn’t the defining difference between these two cameras.
Your videos on photography are really on point! I'm sure your hair videos are great too, but I'm a photographer (what you do with hair does look really cool). You have such a fresh bright perspective on how to use these cameras that's not the same old by the book or overly technical approach. I love it. This is the kind of comparative video people who are passionate about photography should see - all levels from beginners to pros. Keep up the great work!
