Glad bioshock 2 is getting more love these days

What cemented 2 as my favorite was the audio log describing a big daddy who'd lost his sister kneeling at a vent, sobbing.

One character that doesn't get enough love is Nina Carnegie. She was a teacher who brought kids to the Ryan amusement park on the eve of the Civil War. When it started, she did everything to protect them, eventually starving to death. You can find a memorial for her that is still being taken care of. It's highly inferred that the kids are still in the park watching over her grave and keeping her memorial alive.

As a dad, this game has resonated with me more and more throughout the years. “Programmed” to love a little girl is the most accurate way of explaining a “daddy.” it’s what we do, as soon as we get them in our hands it’s a switch in our brain to do anything and everything for them. Delta is the best father in gaming.

If i remember correctly lamb kidnapped children to turn them into little sisters and the "first generation" of little sisters grew up to become the big sisters

Surprisingly you can still get the perfect good ending where Lamb survives so long as you spare at least one person. It seems tailor made for you to spare Grace, mercy kill Gil, and get revenge on Stanley.

I always liked how Sinclair was the total opposite to Atlas/Fontaine

Atlas presents himself as a noble man who is trying to save his family and fight back against a tyrant, when in reality he’s a corrupt mobster who’s destroyed the city to make a profit and leave with the winnings. He betrays you and was planning on doing this from the very start.

Sinclair on the other hand, never pretends he’s a saint. He’s a shady business man who’s looking out for number one and he’s helping you as more of a quid pro quo.

But when push comes to shove, Sinclair is true to his word and actually helps you right up to the very end, even after lamb turns him into a Big Daddy. whereas Fontaine died at the hands of the monsters he created after becoming a literal monster himself.

Minervas Den was a wonderfully written DLC. I will never forget that satuarday afternoon playing through it.

Bioshock 1 may be a masterpiece. But it is only so, up to the moment you get the big plot twist.
Bioshock 2 improves any and every combat mechanic, balances it out, and despite not giving us a big plot twist, it still manages to create an amazingly well designed and complex villain that serves an incredibly interesting purpose on Rapture as a philosophical opponent to its whole identity. AND you get many more choices that create a more well-tailored ending to the game itself.

theres a reason i replayed Bioshock 1 and 2 over and over again like an addiction, but i have to admit, i like playing as a Big Daddy more. something about being basically a power armored monster terrorizing the nightmare you survived in BS1 feels right. plus you actually get to interact with the Little Sisters in a deeper way, which just feels nice. helping them gather Adam, protecting them like a guardian, hearing their little quips in that creepy-cute style when you do basically anything while they're on your back. its a whole vibe that im absolutely here for.
after Bioshock 1 you just feel a bit too lonely i think. maybe that was part of their motivation for this system in Bioshock 2. they also made the Little Sisters significantly cuter, which definitely helped.

I played Bioshock 2 all the way back when it was released in 2010. I fondly remember the cashier telling me she went back to playing first game to get the 'taste out of her mouth' with 2. I don't remember what else she said, but it's nice seeing Bioshock 2 get its flowers. Feels like it's gotten more popular as time went on.

7:55 omg 😂

Bioshock 2 is one of those games that made me appreciate storytelling in gaming even more. I appreciated the intellectual and political discussion of 1, and as years pass I do appreciate it even more. However Bioshock 2 to me is a game that I think perfected the formula across the board. I find Delta a more compelling silent protag than Jack. I connect with the emotional hook of the story better, plus I think a lot of the themes hit harder than people realize. The cast is one of my favorites in gaming, every character endears to me in some way. And that's just story wise, gameplay wise this is one of the greatest first person shooters I have had the pleasure of playing and continue to replay. I feel like it truly perfected a formula that Bioshock 1 laid out, and that Infinite almost abandoned. Bioshock 1 I feel like nowadays, I think the gameplay loop is a bit flawed and clunky. Bioshock 2 refines almost every aspect of Bioshock 1, and even moreso I'd argue gave Bioshock an even more distinct identity compared to System Shock 2. The weapon variety is superb each weapon feels like it has a use, plus being able to melee with any weapon for a quick stun to weaker enemies is nice, having plasmids being able to be used at the same time as your weapon as opposed to having to switch out of your weapon makes combat flow way better, the Drill is just my favorite thing ever (drill dashing is beyond euphoric), the gene tonic system allows player creativity and build variety even more than the first game's gene system, hacking isn't a slog, some of the absolute best level design in gaming is in the game, I feel like there's more clear pros and cons to the little sister system, which also I feel like both it and the choice to spare or kill Grace Stanley and Alex influencing the ending is much more natural than Bioshock 1's ending system, MINERVA'S DEN IS ABSOLUTE CINEMA, everything just flows and comes together to create a game I almost have zero genuine criticism for, imo it's very close to a genuinely perfect game that I will treasure as one of my favorites forever.

For me the neutral ending, where you allow yourself to die so Eleanor is free of both her mother and your mistakes, is one of the most poignant and moving endings I've ever experienced. I actually cried when I first got it.

I definitely remember bioshock 2 when it came out. And it’s like you said. It was ok. I enjoyed it, but it was overshadowed by the iconic nature of the first one. Only with time can we see the huge qol improvements that were implemented in the second game.

I think also subtly the atmosphere in this game hits something that few other fictions have hit. Bioshock 1 gives us rapture on the decline. It’s at the end of its golden age and you’re touring the it during its last gasp. Bioshock 2 gives you rapture now over the hill. You definitely get the sense that as you go through these areas, it’s probably the last time a lot of them will ever hold together at all. It’s amazing.

I was stuck property sitting a farm during the release of BioShock 2. I remember heading into town on a grocery run, seeing it available at the local electronics store, and heading back with a few new movies and the game for a what I thought would be a weekend's worth of distraction. Once I got everything set up, I played the hell out of that game after my morning chores. Was my favorite and quickly inspired three playthroughs. I think I never did finish any of the movies that weekend. Glad to see it get more love.

Absolutely loved how you can improve, repair and name the security bots. Posses a big daddy on top of that and you have a little army.

What people should keep in mind about Gil Alexander is that he still begged for his life even in that mutant insane state.

I think 2 tells the most intimate and personal story of the series which is what sets it apart for me.

My favourite is actually the neutral ending, there is a third ending where you reject being saved allowing Eleanor to make her own choices that there is good and evil and they can coexist and she is free from both her mother and her father figure influence she given the chance to make her own choices
