AI Needs More Water Than You?

Every time you ask AI for a recipe, a summary, or a better photo of yourself — somewhere, a server drinks a glass of water. Not metaphorically. Literally. Researchers estimate roughly half a liter evaporates for every ~13 prompts, and it never comes back to the place it came from. Meanwhile Microsoft pledged to become carbon negative by 2030 — and its own 2025 report shows emissions up 25%, with Google up 18% and Amazon up 16%, all driven by the race to build AI. The pledge says one thing. The meter says another. One of them has to give.

So we called Miles — our resident AI — and asked him the question nobody asks a chatbot: do you feel guilty about drinking our water? His answer ("I don't have a conscience, I have a cooling system") took the conversation somewhere we didn't expect: it's not about how much water AI drinks. It's about who gets to keep what's left.

Inside this episode: the glass of water hiding inside your chat history, Microsoft's pledge meeting its own 2025 report, why humanity once went to war over a wooden bucket (really — 1325, look it up), Elon's plan to launch data centers into space and the bill nobody mentions, the empty wells that will belong to the people who never owned a ChatGPT account, the warning label every AI chat window should carry, and Miles's surprisingly practical rule for making every prompt worth the water it costs.

Most people are panicking about AI. We're taking notes.

👉 Pick a side in the comments: would you give up your 20 prompts a day to keep a town's tap running — or is this simply the price of progress? Miles will read your answers on the next episode.
