It brings to mind one of comments by Moe Norman in one of his videos — “Why should I swing the club around my body the target is straight ahead”

Most things happen in the swing in ‘falling dominos’ fashion and when the legs and lower body don’t move in the correct sequence in the downswing the cause is actually something that occurs before that point in the swing. Letting the trail elbow swing past the center like of the torso — which the amateur bad swing example is doing in this video — will create leg movement and weight transfer in the way back down.

I play with a guy I’ve coached since he started playing who falls back in a habit of starting at address with his legs too straight and can’t clear and square his hips in the finish because he can straighten the lead leg to rotate the lead side of the pelvis back and out of the way resulting in him always finishing with hips blocked finishing facing outside right / not square | or past squared to target \ and cut spin on the ball. Getting him to sit down a bit at address fixed the hip rotation and cured the slice.

It’s like the old joke about the man who goes to the doctor complaining about a pain in the neck and the doctor says, “Try taking the hanger off the coat before putting it on” 😂

Best instruction on YouTube by far. Clear, simple, and actually makes sense. Thanks Craig 👏

Very good Craig. My thought here is to keep my back to the target as long as possible, starting with a closed stance. I tuck my back elbow on the way down, and the feel with my back arm is like I’m skipping a rock across a pond. It goes under from inside to out, because of my closed stance. This gives me solid center contact with the ball, and produces a push draw. I’m actually swinging right of my target, I’m a right handed golfer. To me golf is a game of opposites. We swing right to make the ball go left. Swing left to make it go right. Swing down to make it go up…. I’m 72, and this is what I’ve learned playing golf for many years. I pass this on to struggling golfers on the range. They instantly start improving… Hope this helps some of your followers….

Thank you for the video! I really need this move!!!

The drill with offset feet was helpful to get the feel. I hit the ball more efficiently with increased side bend too.

Yes, sir, i recall a friend telling me exactly this during a round not long ago, he said "when you figure out how to release that right leg, you're going to see a big difference." And he was right, as are you, getting that right knee in that position is key to releasing the right leg and turn. And the added beauty of it is that I didn't have to swing hard, or at least not as hard as I was trying.

Really like this as a concept. Not enough time is allocated to the trail foot, ankle & knee positions during downswing. It definitely helps maintain room for the club to come down unobstructed vs too much early horizontal hip rotation usually leading to extension/knee perpendicular movement. Thus totally intruding on path. Helps to have good range of movement in ankle for internal flexion.

Great video…I tried the two club drill today and I was able to shift to my left side. As you know, (because you are my instructor😊), that I’ve just had a break through on my lag but when I try to put the lag and shift to my left side together I lose one or the either feel. Guess it's still too new to be ingrained but I will keep working at it!! Thanks for all your great videos and lessons!
