I spoke with someone who had served on board with Andrew. "Horrible man" was his reaction to the topic. Andrew bellowed orders, walked about as if he'd invented all things maritime. He's apparently quite dim besides.

I worked with someone who went to school with him. He loathed Andrew. This was before the Falklands so long before his true colours were shown.

There isn’t a single person I’ve heard or read about that has interacted with Andrew that hasn’t called him an arrogant asshole.

If you think Andrew did all of this in a vacuum, you are delusional. The Queen knew, Charles knew, they all knew. The royal family have many staff members who's job it is to cover up the illegal financial, and moral activities of the royals. They are working overtime making William and Katherine look spotless.

During my time in the Royal Navy I served at RNAS Portland/HMS Osprey at the same time as Andrew. As a scabby junior rating and serving on a squadron based on the other side of the airfield from the squadron that he was serving with I hardly saw him besides spending one stint in the small hours of the morning in a guard room with him and his plain clothed police chaperone when he happened to be officer of the day. During that entire watch he didn't exchange a single word with me over the course of several hours, leaving me with the distinct impression of him being an arrogant sod.

That was more than 40 years ago now and a lot has come to light since then, so I suppose my recollection of things might have been skewed over time. But from what I remember, my view of him was entirely consistent with pretty much anyone else in the RN who had any interactions with him. This contrasted very sharply with the general consensus of feelings towards Charles during his time in the service who was widely respected throughout the RN.

BTW with regards his service during the Falklands it was the widely held view of many who were there (I wasn't, as I only joined in early '83) that he was nothing more than the "postman" flying sortees one step removed from the action.
