An Italian general witnessed what the Croats were doing and wrote a letter to Mussolini, urging him to cut all ties with them for the sake of their souls

My grandmother was 12 years old during WWII and was almost taken to Jasenovac. Before the enemy soldiers loaded her in the truck, my grandma's uncle came and begged them to let her go and take him instead, even tho he had a wife and three children of his own. They agreed and my grandma's uncle went to Jasenovac instead of her, the family never saw him again. The story made me very said when my grandma told itnto me for the first time 😢 but without that uncle's sacrifice, my grandma would have met an untimely end and I wouldn't be here right now.

Im from Slovenia. We went to  Jasenovac as a part of primary school excursion back then in yougoslavia (I believe it was 1987). I still have chills when I remember seeing the place and hearing what when on there. Horrifying.
When the war was ending thousands of ustaše were running through my region over the border into Austria. Only to be rejected by the brits who send them back... They are all buried here 10 km from my town. Not everyone who ran was a combatant, but I reckon nobody really cared back then.. The war sucks.

My grandfather was drafted by Ustase as a police oficer. He escaped only after two days and joined the partisans. He said Ustase were butchers, he met Francetic. All of it is true, even much worse.

The world swore after the Holocaust they would never allow it to happen on Earth again. Now 2026 I lost count how many genocides occurred after WWII.

There hasn’t been any room left in hell for decades

I never forget the story of my great grandmother, she and her two small kids was arrested and on the way to camp when on the some quick stop she managed to walked away from a crowd in the near by forest
she said that one soldier saw her but decided to turn the head around and that saved her and kids.
Crazy other way around I wouldn’t be here today.

The fascinating thing about the Balkans is that seemingly everyone tried to commit a genocide against everyone else at least once.

Comments seem full of Croatians denying anything happened.

There is a massive ustashe movement still going in Australia. There are Croatian clubs in Sydney Melbourne and Canberra with photos and ante Pavlic hanging in memorial. It’s disgusting. Majority of the Croatians in Australia escaped after the war to escape deserved prosecution, missing and holding ties too a “free Croatia” their children and grandchildren start too believe that shit as well

My father was born and raised in a small town in Bosnia, right on the border of Croatia. I have driven past and been to Jasenovac count less of times. Everytime I see the monument I can feel the empty and sadness left in that field. You can even see the train cars they used to transport people still sitting there.

Imagine being a Partizan and liberating one one these concentration camps, and when you catch the fleeing ustaše you kill them all.. and now 70 years later the Croatian nationalists say that those ustaše were "victims of a communist agression"

The old man whose final words were "just do your job Child" in the face of a true monster is the ultimate stand of defiance to the guard

Thank you very much about this very informative and generally very well done documentary abour that tragical part of history of today's Croatia. I learned many details I did not know.

My grandfather lost his younger sister along with 8 or 9 other family members, half of whom were young children. He rarely spoke about these atrocities, and he never ever spoke bad of Croatian people. In fact, he had Croatian and Bosniak friends. If he was able to chose humanity after everything he endured, it is really sad and disheartening to see younger generations speak with so much hate these days.

I don't don't think that publishing this on February 15th, Serbian Statehood day is coincidence

We swear it will never happen again. Until it happens again.

My grandfather was cought near Jasenovac and was lucky enough to be sent to Germany to be forced to work in some German arms factory.

He became friend with one of the guards in the factory who helped him survive after the war ended.

He came back home 2 years after the war ended, on everybodys surprise because they all thought he was killed in Jasenovac.

Thank you for talking about this. The world needs to hear and see and understand what we went through..
