Oh wow, I wasn't expecting this to be uploaded. Remember seeing this when it first aired on BBC4 in 2007.

A brilliant documentary. Gerry Anderson and his hardworking team were very talented but underrated for their time. Their work will never be forgotten. The new generation are also into Thunderbirds thanks to these you tube postings.

Itv had innovative dramas programmes back then. All the family could enjoy. Its all quizzes and police series now

i watched the repeats as a kid back in 1991 i was 2 and loved it gerry anderson has produced some fantastic shows

33:36...we NEVER thought that it was a lemon squeezer. It was only in the 90's that I noticed it.
It looked like a massive air extraction fan.

14:00 "While Marina was giving new meaning to the words 'wet dream'..." 🤣

This was a good programme , enjoyed watching it again

What  a feel good documentary fab.

15:13 Always love hearing how they started off filming the first few episodes of Thunderbirds as half hour shows before Lew Grade famously quoted "This is NOT a television series....THIS IS A FEATURE FILM!". And then told Gerry Anderson the episodes had to be hour long shows (50 mins without the breaks).

I believe Mary Turner is the only still surviving member of the original crew for Thunderbirds, she is 92.

Edit*: David Lane is also still alive.

When will the Series 2 will be updated?

The proportions of the Stingray and Thunderbirds puppets were EXACTLY correct for me as a young child. They were REAL people for me, I never even noticed the strings.
The problem came when Gerry tried to create puppets with more 'accurate' anthropomorphic proportions with Scarlet, Joe 90 and, dare I say it, Secret Service?....the magic was lost because they were so stiff compared to what had come before.....the illusion was totally lost....and it was time for live action....should have happened in '68-'69...oh wait...'Journey to the Far Side of the Sun'....excellent!
...and then, UFO!!!! BRILLIANT!
"Duh Duh Duh...Dudher Dhu...Duh Duh Duh....Dudher Dhu..."👍👍

SHOOWEEE....SHOOWEEE.....SHOOWEEE. (That was my poor attempt at UFO Onomatopoei)

That was his greatest achievement and should have had another season...but NOT only on the Moon as was required by Grade. The whole beauty of UFO was the way that the people of SHADO were trying to deal with the alien threat to, and on, Earth!

Sixties THUNDERBIRD'S will never be equaled!!

Are you not uploading  Series 2 of Thunderbirds?

33:00 the lemon squeezer thing is funny.

53:37 ...And those are the only transfers I'd strongly recommend to be streamed.

So Shane Rimmer did the voice of Scott & was in several Bond films.

Just realised this!

Really good doc, but to say that the thuderbirds puppets didn't move correctly and their eyes is incorrect they had solenoids in their heads so the eyes moved perfectly. I For one loved Thunders birds as kid and now I realise the hard work that went in to making them was nothing short of amazing and along with the special effects etc and the music from Barry Gray  that was the icing on the cake, i thought 2 series was made of Thunderbirds the second series not having many episode compared to series 1 is this correct? I am currently watching the ITV Retro series of Thunderbirds and they are fab a new episode comes out every Monday Enjoy

When are you going to put series 2 of thunderbirds on to itv retro ?

26:14, well that white collar was indeed an RCS cluster, as where the ports around the grey gills.....but it still doesn't make any sense how TB3 could re-enter the atmosphere without burning up...let alone the concept that it could travel to the Sun and back in a single stage at a phenomanal speed....and then just float in the air during landing into three exhaust vents inside a narrow silo..... Oh well!
I do recall however, that the Thunderbird craft were powered by 'unlimited' nuclear power..so maybe that's how it was possible?
