Some cats can be incredibly protective of their owners. When I lived alone in Seattle, I had a small female cat named Luna who usually slept on my bed, but always snuggled right beside me. One night, however, she sat directly on my chest all night, wide awake. I couldn't figure it out. I got up to see if she wanted food, but she didn't; I went back to bed and she resumed sitting on top of me, keeping watch. It turned out we'd had a prowler trying to break into the house, and I truly believe she was guarding me. The next morning, I found large men's footprints in the flower beds around the perimeter of the house, showing he had tested nearly every window. He had even smashed a terracotta pot by stepping on it for leverage, seemingly trying to pry open the sliding glass doors in the living room from the top. In all of Luna's 15 years of life, that was the only night she ever sat on me like that while I slept.
I always thought covering their face with their paw was just them trying to block out the light. Hearing the evolutionary behavioral science behind it—that they are actually tucking away their most vulnerable sensory organs to self-soothe and conserve heat—is so fascinating. But let's be honest, even knowing the biology behind it, when they do that little built-in sleep mask pose, you are still legally required to stop whatever you're doing and take 50 pictures every single time! 😂
My indoor cat- she watches me through the glass door picking her some grass and when i turn to head back to her she gets so freaking happy and excited that i can hear her chittering from like ten feet away lol
The 'lick then bite' combo [06:17] always used to make me feel so rejected! 😭 I had no idea it was actually just sensory overstimulation and their way of saying 'I love you but I'm done now.' Learning to respect that invisible boundary without drama is such a game-changer for our bond. Thank you for this!
Cats do so many strange things that seem completely random until you learn what they actually mean. This video helped me understand my cat's behavior in a way that was both fascinating and surprisingly relatable.
I love that you share this with everyone! It’s so important for us to learn their language! This makes me miss my sweet fur babies I had. May they rest in peace! Amen! 🙏🏻❤️
My cats also show affection by touching their forehead to mine and staying like that for a few seconds. I've noticed that they do the same thing with each other.❤❤
This is such a fascinating and informative video! Cats often do things that seem strange, but there’s usually a reason behind every behavior. Learning the real meanings behind these habits helps me understand my cat better and build an even stronger bond with them.
