I have this table-rule that has really worked well at my games.

"If you point out something in the rules that would currently disadvantage/inconvenience you, or the party as a whole, those affected get inspiration."

Im reminded of a Matt Colville piece, where he talks about the 'friendly game'. Players look out for GM, GM looks out for players, we are all friends, lets have fun.

We have an unspoken rule of

If we forget "oh well shit happens"

What? Honesty and open communication is the solution *again*? If I had a nickel...

It's playing in "good faith" to remind DMs when they forget something. And I always try to remind players if they forget. It's basic respect.

I'm too on-the-spectrum to not immediately point out rules inconsistencies, whether they help me or hurt me.

If I forget something and someone reminds me, I tend to say, “Oh, yah. We’ll keep it as is for this combat since we’re into it, but from here on out we’ll go with that.”

5:04 Ordinarily I'd say as GM you should remind people about their stuff (if you remember) but there are limits. If a player consistently doesn't remember things, and is always relying on the GM to tell them their own bonuses, eventually I think the GM is off the hook.

I was frustrated that a lot of people seemed to respond to this question with "this isn't cheating because I do it".

When drawing the line of moral judgement, most people don't think, they just place it right under their own feet and say "anything worse than me is unacceptable".

Multiple times I have been the one to bring up a rule that the dm forgets; I always start off with "I'm sorry guys,". My party never has had problems with me reminding the DM of a rule he forgot. And most of the times the things he forgets are against me so I bassicly screw myself over, but I'd rather be honest than just keep it in

My GM always jokes that I am a rules lawyer for the defense as well as the prosection so I would almost certainly make a note when I notice, if it's not going to disrupt things.

That player is inviting the DM to reveal that actually it's a pack of werewolves!!!

@tylerthorstrom4100 5 months ago

“Hey DM, should those wolves have Pack Tactics?”
“Nope. They don’t.”
Less than a 10 second interruption.

My DM made it a rule that if anyone forgets a rule for any reason, that's on them. If we forget our own abilities or he forgets a creature's abilities, then that's just an additional layer of nuance to the encounter.

I like to think Grace provided the wolf "meow" sound bite

@Ashrimpfriedmyrice-1 5 months ago

If it’s a module I’d bring it up, if it’s homebrew I’d assume he’s running a different kind of wolf.

@MrJasonLG 5 months ago

I would remind the DM. My DM generally in a situation like that would just be like "My bad, this time since I forgot they don't get it, but next time it's on."
