I love this longer-form guide! It's super detailed and informative but doesn't feel rushed, just something cozy to have on to learn more about Hakone. Well done :)

This is great! Thank you so much for including the entire day, start-to-finish. Many travel youtubers do something along the lines of "best things to do in this place" but present it as a list and just jump from one point to the next, without offering the best route to hit all those places efficiently in a day.

My wife and I used this guide on our honeymoon trip to Hakone and it was so incredibly helpful. One note, the bus route from Moto Hakone to Gora seems to have changed since you made this video. The transfer to Hakone Tozan train is now at Kowakidani station, not Chokoku No Mori

I'm slowly gathering a list of things I want to experience on my Japan trip and hot springs ryokan is definitely at the top of my list!!!

Wish I’d been able to see this before my trip there! Enjoyed it very much but almost didn’t make my train after because of our over ambitious and under researched itinerary. Your tips would certainly have helped. A note on the open air museum, I really enjoyed seeing their prize statue, Rodin’s Balzac in bronze. It’s prominently featured, but don’t miss it. Also, the exhibit building there has a really good collection of later period works by Picasso. I’m not his biggest fan, but learned more about his artistic journey seeing those.

Thanks for sharing! Having just come back from Hakone, I strongly recommend spending at least one night in the area, rather than doing a day trip. In fact, we spent two nights in Hakone and had a glorious time. We stayed at Tensui Saryo, a wonderful ryokan that's a 2-minute walk from the Gora train station. We had a private bath on the balcony (like the one shown here) and had phenomenal meals.

The sights listed in the video are spot-on. Among the others I'd add:
** Visit Gora Park, which is a botanic garden that's a pleasure to visit. (If you have a Hakone Freepass, admission is free.)
** If you're there in the fall, walk through the pampas (grassfield) at Sengokuhara. It's a simple up-and-back walk on a hillside that takes about 30 minutes, not counting the many times you'll stop to take photos, but it's a glorious and exhilarating experience.
** If you're a walker/hiker: Walk along the east side of Lake Ashi from Togendai to Motohakone (or vice versa). It's a leisurely 1.5 hour stroll through the trees along the shore. You'll pass both the Hakone shrine, as well as the Kuzuryu shrine.

Your guide to Hakone is one of the best I've found! So detailed and easy step by step instructions of how to get the most of your time in Hakone. Haven't been since 1994 but looking forward to going back and taking my husband to Hakone for the first time in late October. Hoping Mt Fuji plays nice and comes out to say hello.
