The U.S. military news outlet The War Zone covered South Korea’s test launch of a Hypersonic Boost-Glide Vehicle (HGV) on October 9 in an exclusive analysis article, assessing that "a murky but nascent hypersonic arms race is emerging on the Korean Peninsula."

Analyzing the released launch footage and photos, The War Zone confirmed that the launch vehicle is an 8-axis medium-sized vehicle similar to the Hyunmoo-4 series Mobile Launcher Erector Launcher (TEL), and highlighted that the warhead features a flat, lifting body shape, unlike conventional ballistic missiles.

The War Zone pointed out a strategic dilemma: while South Korea has secured similar technology given that North Korea has already test-fired the Hwasong-8 hypersonic missile, this could simultaneously provoke North Korea and accelerate further development.

Specifications such as range and warhead weight were not disclosed, but The War Zone stated that they are estimated to be between hundreds and thousands of kilometers (internal analysis).
