For the record, no aircraft ever required a ' conventional auto transmission '. The task of adjusting  speed and power with reference to torque was accomplished via a variable pitch propeller, sometimes using hydraulic pressure and sometimes driven electrically as in the Curtis Electric Propeller hub.

Change your title the duck saved a lot of people during wwii

I say we drink a shot every time it says  automotive transmissions!

No conventional automatic transmission was injured during this video

The 'V173' pancske had an unanticipated problem  - you had to make  a few before they came out as nice as you wanted.

On the Voss and Bohm on some models, the right horizontal stabilizer was eliminated. I saw the twin Mustang at the Confederate Air Force Museum in Harlingen, TX.

Interesting subject but would have been better if they all had automotive transmissions!

Gruman Duck -- 1930s my father's older brother George Olaf Olson was a recently graduate US Coast Guard Academy Officer with his  pilot wings. He brought a Duck to Duluth Minnesota Coast Guard Station and before landing buzzed the family home 419 Minneapolis Avenue in the Woodland neighbourhood. All the neighbors knew who it was and nobody complained. This was the Depression and the local boy  had scores high enough to win appointment to the Academy and then on to pilot wings.
WW2 he flew a Specially modified PBY photo recon with the Trimetragon Camera.  Something went wrong and it crashed on Adak Island .. all on board perished. I now know that the Coast Guard lied to my father about certain details of the crash when he visited Coast Guard headquarters in the early 1970s .... They even had 2 officers who knew my father's brother tell a false story and Dad grasped that "lie" as real and he sent Christmas letters to them for the next 36 years ....

Why does the narrator keep mentioning that these airplanes do not have a conventional transmission? It would be unusual to find an airplane that does have an automotive transmission.

If you want to see a real P-82 Twin Mustang today, visit the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville, Florida.  The P-82 at Valiant Air Command is the only complete and airworthy example of this aircraft in the world!  The last time I checked, it was for sale!

8:35; how does a v1710 allison displace 1610 cid???

Should have included Rutan Boomerang.

The twin Mustang isn't unique. The first thing that comes to mind is the Heinkel He-111Z "Zwilling," designed to tow the Messerschmitt Me-321 glider. It consisted of two He-111 bombers joined wing-to-wing with an additional engine. However, the Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a better idea as a long-range fighter, and it's essentially, again, two fighters joined wing-to-wing with the cockpit in the center.

10:00) The Vought 173 was in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". The lower front looks like the flying sub from "Voyage to the Boof the Sea". AKA "The Flying Flapjack".A failed US attempt to copy Germany's failed Sack S-1, S-2, -3, -4 and the -5.
Left out was the US' plane that launched from the tail and landed on the tail. It was to cram more fighters onto the carriers.

I subbes

Hughes H-4 Hercules

Duck tails. You sell that in a kit.😋

Optica

The fact that you even mentioned the Duck anywhere in this stoopid video, you lose all and any credibility.   👎👎👎👎👎

🤝👌👍
